The Opportunity

WSDOT is currently seeking a Maintenance Custodian to join their team in Vancouver, WA. This position will perform general cleaning, exterior grounds and facility maintenance, and landscaping upkeep for the Southwest Region Headquarters and Main Street Facilities. The selected individual for this position must be flexible, with the ability to work independently and follow established procedures. What to Expect

This position performs work that is inside and outside of maintenance facilities in all weather conditions. Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Maintenance Custodian will:

  • Sanitize/disinfect and replenish supplies for restrooms.
  • Scrub, dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, wax, strip, and buff a variety of floor surfaces.
  • Wash and clean windows. 
  • Maintain inventory and order janitorial supplies.
  • Maintain grounds by mowing grass, push and riding lawnmower, operate weed eater, and basic landscaping upkeep.
  • Trim trees, shrubs and leaf collection. 
  • Snow removal.
  • Pick up litter.
  • Perform minor building maintenance, repair flush-o-meters, change light bulbs, and unplug drain lines.


Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:

  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Basic computer skills including email and internet searches.
  • Experience in housekeeping, cleaning or other equivalent experience.
  • The ability to relocate tools, equipment, and materials weighing up to 50lbs from one location to another.


It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

  • One (1) year of custodial experience performing cleaning and sanitizing.
  • One (1) year of landscape experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Herbicide applicators license. 
  • Knowledge and experience of basic building maintenance.

  • This recruitment may also be used to fill additional positions per business needs.
  • This position is not eligible for remote work.
  • In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position. For union-represented positions, more information on other forms of compensation can be found in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements. Information on other compensation types for non-represented positions can be found in Chapter 357-28 of the Washington Administrative Code.
