Position OverviewThis position will provide strategic leadership for the expansion of Core Plus programming, in support of CTE graduation pathways and course sequencing to provide additional opportunities for students interested in construction, manufacturing, maritime, and related career pathways. This position will require collaboration with educators and industry partners to ensure increased access to CTE programs aligned with career opportunities in construction, manufacturing, maritime, and related career pathways with an intentional focus on the Core Plus model. This position will build and implement a work plan that makes progress on strategic goals for the agency including: Learner-Centered Options in Every Community, providing all students with access to challenging coursework, culturally responsive and anti-racist curriculum, and pathways to graduation and beyond that meet their unique interests.A Committed, Unified and Customer-Focused OSPI, supporting school districts through consistent, timely and meaningful support that centers the needs of students. Key ResponsibilitiesThis position will provide oversight, leadership, and guidance at the state level to support CTE and Core Plus programming. This position works closely with a wide variety of partners including other OSPI departments, high schools, skills centers, school districts, educational service districts, higher education partners, and business and industry experts to develop and implement best practices and policies to equitably expand access and preparation for high school students of Washington. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Provide leadership, management, and technical assistance to districts, schools, and institutions of higher education related to Core Plus construction, manufacturing, and maritime programs, and related career pathways. Provide statewide leadership for the adoption, implementation, development and maintenance of Core Plus programs of study.Coordinate and manage grant activities in support of Core Plus applicants and grantees. Evaluate and monitor compliance of activities related to state funded grants.Develop data collection practices on Core Plus program participants, in partnership with the Education Research and Data Center (ERDC).Work collaboratively with business and industry partners to offer relevant and meaningful professional development opportunities for Core Plus instructors. Collaborate with the sector lead team, community and technical colleges, four-year colleges, professional organizations, and the Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board to implement outreach programs that attract middle and high school students to careers in high demand fields and educate students about the coursework that is necessary to be adequately prepared to succeed in these careers.Provide leadership and technical assistance that supports course and program approval processes, framework development for construction, manufacturing, maritime, and other related CTE career pathway in alignment with Core Plus programming. Participate on the Program Review and Support (PRS) team for monitoring federal programs and compliance.Serve as the OSPI liaison to the Washington Industrial Technology Education Association (WITEA) to provide direct support to educators. Serve as a liaison to Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) as needed.Support the transformation of K12 education to a system that is focused on closing opportunity gaps, maintaining high expectations for all students and educators; promoting racial, social, and economic equity Identify and clearly communicate information that helps build connections and fosters collaboration among agency staff, K-12 educators and administrators, and industry partners.
