General Job Summary
Provides college access and student success outreach programming to West Virginia students and families including but not limited to financial aid information, college readiness advising, and College for West Virginia (CFWV.com) training.
Duties And Responsibilities
Implement a myriad of outreach services to increase awareness of and access to students and families planning and preparing for postsecondary education.
Provide outreach services to state, district, local school, and other college access programs/services with district, school based, and other personnel.
Coordinate, schedule, and conduct outreach workshops and trainings including state financial aid workshops, FAFSA completion workshops, college applications and exploration workshops, and promote and assist high school counselors, including but not limited to FAFSA Data Share.
Deliver a variety of instructional activities and strategies related to college awareness and access, including CFWV.com web portal workshops for use with individual students, small groups, classes, and large groups in assembly, classroom, conference, seminar, summer program, workshop, and other appropriate settings.
Work with school-based staff, institutions, and other service providers to ensure adequate resources are accessible.
Staff outreach displays specific to financial and college awareness materials including the WV College Fair Tour and other outreach events.
Other duties as assigned to support the Divisions of Financial Aid and Student Affairs.
Collects and reports data as required; provides monthly data and reporting related to outreach efforts to monitor measurable outcomes.
Develops partnerships with local, state, regional organizations and/or agencies to support
outreach goals.
Works closely with agency staff to determine outreach needs and coordinate programming.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in education, counseling, admissions, financial aid, public relations, human services, or a related area AND 2 years of relevant experience is required.
Any combination of education and/or additional relevant experience which provide an applicant with the listed knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the job may be considered.
Travel: Ability to travel extensively to targeted regional sites is required. Involves in-state and occasional out-of-state travel (including possible airline travel.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Ability to effectively communicate orally both in public speaking and interpersonal communication.
Proficiency with computers, internet, and Microsoft Office 365 software.
Goal oriented with strong organizational skills.
Excellent interpersonal and human relations skills.
Ability to work independently and to meet timelines.
Commitment to team approach.
Highly effective problem-solving skills.
Strong knowledge of public education, economic, and cultural issues in WV.
Awareness of strategies to improve graduation rates/retention and postsecondary access.
Ability to learn and apply complex federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to financial aid programs and student eligibility requirements.
Ability to learn and understand complexities of completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA).
Preferred Experience
Higher education experience with recruitment, outreach, student support service and counseling.
Experience With State And Federal Financial Aid Programs Preferred.
