The Division of Adult Institutions is currently recruiting to fill a Power Plant Superintendent position. This position will be headquartered at Waupun Correctional Institution (WCI) in Waupun, WI.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for the overall operation, maintenance, and repair of the central generating plant, which provides utility services to Waupun Correctional Institution, Dodge Correctional Institution, John C. Burke Correctional Center, the State Garage, and the State Creamery.

This position works with high-pressure gas and oil-fired boilers. This position oversees boiler operation, boiler chemistry, boiler controls and repair and advises operators on how to solve problems should they occur. This position works with steam driven electrical generation and diesel driven generators operating in isochronous co-phase with the utility and independent operation.

Salary Information

The starting pay is between $55889 and $92206 per year, plus excellent benefits. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. The pay schedule / range is 81-03. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency to employment.

NOTE : This position is NOT eligible to work remotely

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have experience :

  • Operating boilers (gas and oil fired) and auxiliary power plant equipment including electrical systems, generators, and distribution systems.
  • Conducting repairs and preventive maintenance of power plant equipment (i.e., generators, boilers, distribution systems, etc.).
  • In addition to the above, well qualified applicants will have :

  • Experience planning and overseeing power plant related projects / construction including management of an operating budget.
  • Education, training, and / or experience working with various rules, standards, and regulations related to power plant operation (OSHA, WI Dept. of Natural Resources, EPA, etc.)
  • Experience utilizing leadership or supervisory techniques (e.g. assigning, directing, reviewing and / or evaluating work, providing training, grievances and investigations, etc.).
  • Experience utilizing computer programs such as Microsoft Word or Excel to maintain records and prepare reports.
