Position Overview:
The Data & Reporting Engineering Manager will be an experienced leader tasked with ensuring the availability of accurate, consistent, and timely data for both internal and external reporting purposes. This role focuses on leveraging high-quality data for investment decision-making (including performance, leverage, exposure, and risk), operations oversight, senior executive reporting, governance and board communications, and client relations.
The Manager will lead a team of report engineers who possess a comprehensive understanding of the investment management lifecycle, data flows, and related controls. This team will also be responsible for delivering ad-hoc information and reports for executive presentations, audits, and regulatory agencies, supporting various business needs.
This position requires strong analytical skills, proficiency in data visualization tools, and a solid understanding of business intelligence concepts. The Data & Reporting Engineering Manager will report to the Data Architecture & Engineering Manager and will work with teams across the organization to provide timely, actionable insights using BI tools such as Power BI.
Essential activities:
- Adhere to best practices in data visualization, accessibility, and security when designing and publishing reports. Ensure compliance with agency standards and data governance policies.
- Work closely with portfolio managers and analysts to translate reporting requirements into actionable insights.
- Champion SWIB’s report quality model, focusing on: Board Reporting, Client Reporting, Management Reporting and Analytics
- Utilize Power BI and Tableau for data visualization, create dashboards with Snowflake Snowsight, build interactive applications using Streamlit, and employ advanced SQL for data querying.
- Create impactful and insightful reports using Power BI. Ensure reports are accurate, visually appealing, and aligned with business objectives.
- Monitor and maintain report quality processes and metrics. Ensure critical reports are reliable, accessible, and timely.
- Create KPIs and dashboards for monitoring report performance. Analyze KPIs to identify and resolve reporting issues.
- Develop insightful reports on investment performance, risk metrics, and market trends. Drive the creation of reports and dashboards tailored to agency needs.
- Work with IT to enhance SWIB’s reporting infrastructure. Support the execution of the reporting strategy.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in reporting practices. Stay updated on reporting trends and industry best practices to enhance report design and usability. Drive enhancements that improve usability, effectiveness, scalability, and data governance.
- Adhere to best practices in data visualization, accessibility, and security when designing and publishing reports. Ensure compliance with agency standards and data governance policies.
The ideal candidate:
- 10 years of experience in designing, developing, and maintaining reports and dashboards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Extensive knowledge of and interest in the investment industry. Direct experience in the Investment industry is preferred.
- Experience using Power BI, or similar tool such as Qlik Sense, Tableau, or MicroStrategy
- Demonstrates a proactive attitude towards enablement through insightful reporting and dashboard solutions.
- Familiarity with data modeling, DAX (Data Analysis Expressions), and SQL querying for data manipulation and integration within reports.
- Experience implementing testing tools and data quality metrics/processes to ensure overall data quality of reports that are supported and developed.
- Proficient in conducting data analysis, interpreting financial information, and presenting insights to support decision-making processes.
- Experience deploying reports utilizing automated processes Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CICD) techniques which includes YAML-based toolset.
- Experience deploying to cloud providers such as Azure or AWS.
- Experience with Snowflake as a data source, including familiarity with the Snowflake Data Marketplace and exposure to Snowflake Snowsight, is mandatory for the Data and Reporting Manager role.
- Experience with Python, Terraform, AWS CloudFormation or Azure Bicep is a plus.

Pursuant to our Hybrid Remote Work Policy, all staff have the flexibility to work remotely but are required to have a weekly presence in our offices, the frequency of which is dependent on their distance from office.
