Introduction


The State of Wisconsin, Department of Military Affairs (DMA) is hiring a Buildings and Grounds Superintendent. This position is located at Truax Air Base, in Madison.

The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday 7:00a.m.- 3:30p.m.

The DMA provides essential, effective, and responsive military and emergency management capability for the citizens of our state and nation. During emergencies, no single organization can handle the response. The DMA consists of several organizations working together to plan, prepare, coordinate, and respond effectively when our communities and neighbors need us the most.

Position Summary


Under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager, the Buildings and Grounds Superintendent supervises skilled and semi-skilled employees involved in services, maintenance, repair, grounds upkeep, and minor remodeling. The position prepares correspondence and must complete various administrative functions in support of buildings and grounds administration. The position oversees the execution of contracts with private firms for janitorial services, landscape maintenance, maintenance & repair, remodeling, and construction projects. The Buildings and Grounds Superintendent is responsible for building key control, security, HVAC system management, and preventive maintenance systems and manages authorized funding and identifies cost saving initiatives. The position provides support as directed for building and equipment maintenance and repair for Air National Guard facilities located at Truax Field in Madison.

Salary Information


Starting pay is between $39.00 and $43.91/ hr.

This position is in the 81-03 pay schedule/range. A 12-month probation will be required.

The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday 7:00a.m.- 3:30p.m.

For current permanent state employees, pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

The Department of Military Affairs does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.

Job Details


Must possess or be eligible to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license as a condition of continued employment.

Position requires a background check and security clearance for gaining access to the installation and restricted areas within.

All new permanent, project, and limited term employees will be required to report to Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) in Madison on the Monday of their first week of employment for the New Employee Orientation (NEO) program. Additional information will be sent to the new employees and their supervisors on the Tuesday prior to NEO.

Qualifications


Candidates who meet minimum qualifications will have experience with:

Supervision of skilled and semi-skilled staff.


Planning, administering and overseeing buildings and grounds maintenance, repair, remodeling, minor construction projects, etc.


Methods, materials, and equipment utilized in building construction.


Using personal computers and a variety of software applications, including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.


In addition to the minimum qualifications, well-qualified candidates will also have experience with the following preferred qualifications:

Managing an automated work order system for accuracy, accountability of staff hours, and work completed.


Planning, coordinating, and administering contracts such as janitorial cleaning, elevator and fire suppression system inspection, Automated Building Management System (ABMS) maintenance, etc.


Programming the facility heating, ventilating and air conditioning and automated building management systems, programming, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing direct digital controls, etc.


Working with U.S. Air Force, National Guard Bureau and/ or the Wisconsin Air National Guard Physical security regulations, policies, and procedures.
