Introduction
Make an impact at the Wisconsin Department of Transportation by analyzing and maintaining the Federal Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) records, databases, and reports! This Fatality Reporting System Analyst (IS Resources Support Technician-Intermediate) position is within the Division of State Patrol.
This position is headquartered at the Hill Farms State Office Building at 4822 Madison Yards Way, Madison, WI, and allows the option to work remotely up to 4 days per week once fully trained. All employees working a hybrid work schedule are still expected to telework from within the State of Wisconsin. This topic will be discussed more at the time of the interview.

Note: This position requires annual travel for National FARS System training (about one week per year).
Position Summary
This position contributes to Wisconsin and national motor vehicle safety by providing detailed and rigorous analysis and classification of fatal motor vehicle traffic crashes that occur in Wisconsin. The results of this work are incorporated into the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), a traffic safety database, used by analysts and policy makers to monitor and improve the safety of roadways.
Other responsibilities include:
- Maintaining all Wisconsin and Federal FARS cases in applicable databases.
- Investigate all reported traffic fatalities and fatal crash reports to be added, updated, or removed from FARS systems.
- Prepare reports on fatality statistics, trends, etc.
- Develop training materials and manuals for FARS systems.
Salary Information
This position is in schedule-range (06-13) with a starting hourly rate of $23.32, plus excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

- Experience making determinations or conclusions from data sources such as diagrams, maps, reports, etc.
- Experience reviewing current or existing processes for improvement.
