Position Summary
Old World Wisconsin is a 600-acre outdoor living history museum located in Eagle, Wisconsin. Guests explore homes, farms, and businesses that come from across Wisconsin, exploring stories of place and perseverance from the 1840s to the 1930s. With a focus on hands exploration and immersive spaces, OWW is a celebrated destination for families and friends making new memories, sharing stories, and connecting to Wisconsin's past as they get inspired for their own futures. Staff work in historic indoor and outdoor spaces in the beauty of the Kettle Moraine State Forest to bring history to life for tens of thousands of guests each summer.
The individual in this position is responsible for welcoming guests to the Brewhouse, enriching the Brewhouse experience through interpretation of displays, ingredients, and samples, and assisting in Brewhouse operations including historic brewing demonstrations, ingredient management, and brewhouse cleaning. The Historic Brewer will facilitate exploration of Old World Wisconsin’s historic spaces by being a knowledgeable guide to the program and collections.
This position provides welcoming, high-quality guest service in alignment with the Mission of WHS and the Vision of Old World Wisconsin. This employee must work well in a fast-paced environment and have a passion for creative, guest-focused service.
Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Brewing Demonstration and Guest Service
- Greet and welcome Brewhouse guests; provide prompt assistance and anticipate needs
- Participate in historic brewing demonstrations including working with historically inspired ingredients, working with active fireplaces, and handling hot liquids
- Provide clear information relating to Brewhouse activities including historic brewing processes, brewhouse operations, special event information, and general historic brewing knowledge including leading the brewing demonstration
- Become familiar with beer samples including recipes, history, and brewing techniques
- Become well-versed in museum mission and philosophy
- Maintain personal appearance according to museum standards and wear museum-approved uniforms or costumes
- Ensure guests being served samples or purchasing beer are 21 by checking ID’s for all guests
Maintain sanitation, cleanliness, and appearance of areas.
- Maintain historic brewing equipment and follow daily cleaning procedures and processes
- Maintain the cleanliness of all dining, serving, and display areas in the Brewhouse throughout the day.
- Clean and sanitize bar tools, glassware, and utensils after each use.
- Adhere to local health and safety regulations by using approved cleaning products and methods.
Schedule:
2 to 5 days a week; 9:15 am - 5:30 p.m., weekend hours required. This is a seasonal position.
Salary Information
Pay is $15.00 per hour with a weekend differential of 80 cents per hour. This classification is in schedule and class 03-10.
Please note this is a Limited Term Employment position so it does not include paid time off or benefits upon hire.
Job Details
A criminal background check will be conducted by WHS prior to an offer of employment to determine if the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job.
This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and limited to 1,039 hours. This position will be part time and average 30 hours per week.
Wisconsin residency is required for Limited Term Employment positions.
Limited Term Employment (LTE) positions are not civil service classified positions, do not give any rights to permanent civil service classified positions and do not lead to permanent status.
WHS does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.

- Ability to work in a semi-outdoor setting and varying weather conditions
- Work is performed in historic structures lacking climate control and with direct exposure to the outdoors in farm and wooded environments, including fire smoke, allergens and insects
- Work will be performed while in historic costume or approved uniform, in all weather
- Work involves daily contact with the public
- Days and hours may vary to accommodate specific programs and events
