The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is actively seeking a Lead IT Technical Architect (IS Technical Services Consultant/Administrator) to join our Enterprise Architecture team in the Bureau of Information Technology Services (BITS).
This full-time permanent position is headquartered at the Hill Farms State Office Building on the near west side of Madison, Wisconsin and allows the option to work remotely up to 5 days per week. All employees are expected to work within the State of Wisconsin. This position will be required to come into the Madison, WI office for training, meetings and/or operational needs. Position Summary
This position serves as WisDOT’s primary technical expert, consultant, and liaison to other IT subject matter experts, BITS management, and agency business areas on issues related to end-to-end IT technical architecture, including interoperability, product/technology direction, disaster recovery, and availability. This position participates in IT strategic planning efforts and is responsible for development and maintenance of plans and roadmaps related to IT technical architecture to support WisDOT business and IT needs. This position also leads creation and maintenance of policies, standards, and procedures related to WisDOT’s IT technical architecture components.
- Lead and mentor specialized IT architects, other IT subject matter experts, project teams, and vendors on IT technology integration best practices, theories, and techniques.
- Coordinate WisDOT IT technical architecture activities, including lead the WisDOT IT Architecture Review Board
- Ensure WisDOT IT initiatives and general operations conform to regulatory, enterprise, and WisDOT requirements and established industry best practices.
- Coordinate maintenance of the WisDOT Technical Reference Model
- Initiate and manage the technical research, development, and consulting services to support strategic directions and tactical integration of IT technology infrastructure and application development environments within WisDOT.
Salary Information
This position is in schedule-range (07-32) with an annual salary of $76,960 - $116,480 ($37 - $56 per hour), plus excellent benefits. A twelve-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Qualifications
Minimally Qualified applicants must detail having experience performing all of the following:
- Significant professional experience serving as a senior level architect or architect team lead.
- Significant professional experience developing short- and long-term plans/roadmaps for an organization’s end-to-end IT technology architecture.
- Significant professional experience designing technology solutions that fulfill business needs while complying with applicable regulatory/organizational standards.
In addition to having experience in all of the above, highly qualified candidates will also have experience with one or more of the following:
- Working with architecture-level information security systems (e.g. cloud security management, structured/unstructured database encryption, mobile application and remote API security, fine-grained application authorization and access control, etc.)
- Working with containerized application deployment tools, container resource management, and/or server virtualization technologies
