The Wisconsin DNR is hiring multiple LTE (Limited Term Employee) Fisheries Technicians. The positions can be based in either Eagle River, Florence, Rhinelander or Woodruff and will work on either the Eagle Chain of Lakes or Kentuck Lake in Vilas and Forest Counties.
We will consider both full-time and half-time applicants. Half-time employees usually work a week on and a week off. - We’re seeking to fill three full-time position (40 hours/week) or equivalent half-time position (approximately 20 hours/week) to conduct open water creel surveys.

Position Summary
The positions will work five days per week including all weekends and holidays and three randomly scheduled weekdays. Half-time positions are normally a week on and a week off. Shifts are 8 hours in length and will vary randomly between morning and evening each day.
The successful candidates will report directly to the assigned lake and are required to provide transportation. Actual miles driven or the equivalent mileage from the home station (whichever is less) will be reimbursed at the current state rate. Weekend and evening hours get an additional $.80 per hour; holidays hours are paid at time and a half.
These positions will independently or under general supervision perform creel clerk duties. This involves interviewing anglers, identifying and measuring fish caught, recording data, and collating and compiling the collected data.
10% Lead other LTE Fisheries Technicians performing creel census duties.
70% Independently or under general supervision perform creel census clerk duties and collect fish information on designated waters. Measure, weigh and identify fish caught. Interview anglers. Record data.
20% Compile and analyze data and prepare written documentation and/or reports.
Salary Information
This position pays between $18.04-18.45 per hour and is in pay schedule and range 06-12. Compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
Job Details
This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and will not automatically lead to permanent state employment or be entitled to the same benefits as permanent employees.

1) Residency: To be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.
A Wisconsin resident is a person who:
a. Has established a residence, as defined in s. 6.10(1), in this state not less than 10 days earlier;
b. Has resided in this state for not less than a total of one year out of the immediately preceding 5 years;
c. Is eligible to register to vote in this state; or
d. Is the spouse of a person meeting the requirements of par. (a), (b), or (c).” s.230.03(12), Wis. Stats.

Qualifications
Minimal Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public
- Operation and maintenance of a boat with an outboard
- Willingness to work outdoors in inclement weather
- Willingness to work a variable schedule (including all weekends and holidays)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to identify common Wisconsin fish species
- Ability to record required data accurately
- Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and punctual
- Ability to pass boat safety training by the start date.
