The Wisconsin DNR is hiring three LTE (Limited Term Employee) – Fisheries Technician Creel Survey Clerks in Sturgeon Bay and Milwaukee, WI.
One position will be stationed in Sturgeon Bay and will perform work in Northern Door County. Low cost, shared housing may be available for rent in one of our Door County State Parks. Please contact Nicholas.Legler@wisconsin.gov for information more information on housing.
Two positions will be stationed at our Great Lakes Research Facility in Milwaukee. One of these positions will perform work in Milwaukee County. The other will perform work in Racine and Kenosha and will not need to report to the Milwaukee office daily.

Position Summary
These positions provide opportunities to gain valuable experience working with the WI DNR. You'll build your skills handling fish and working with the public on a daily basis. The numerous fish you'll encounter will expand your ability to obtain biological data while improving your identification skills at the same time.
Additionally, creel surveys are the best tool that fisheries managers have to monitor recreational harvest. Incumbents of these positions will learn the intricacies of such surveys and develop skills that can be applied in future fisheries management careers.

Position Duties:
Independently or under general supervision perform creel survey clerk duties and collect fish information on designated waters. Count and interview anglers; record data; and measure, weigh, and identify fish caught. Compile and analyze data and prepare written documentation and/or reports.
80% - Independently or under general supervision perform creel survey clerk duties and collect fish information on designated waters. Interview anglers; record data; measure, weigh, and identify fish caught.
15% - Compile and analyze data and prepare written documentation and/or reports.
5% - Assist with other projects as assigned.
Salary Information
These positions pay $18.04 per hour and are in pay schedule and range 06-12. Compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
Job Details
This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and will not automatically lead to permanent state employment or be entitled to the same benefits as permanent employees.

Special Requirements:
1) Residency: To be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.
A Wisconsin resident is a person who:
a. Has established a residence, as defined in s. 6.10(1), in this state not less than 10 days earlier;
b. Has resided in this state for not less than a total of one year out of the immediately preceding 5 years;
c. Is eligible to register to vote in this state; or
d. Is the spouse of a person meeting the requirements of par. (a), (b), or (c).” s.230.03(12), Wis. Stats.

Qualifications
In addition to the required qualifications below, the selected candidate must be eligible to drive a state vehicle and meet the following criteria:
- Have a valid driver’s license
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have a minimum of two years licensed driving experience
- Have not had three (3) or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two (2) years
- Have no OWI/DUI violations within the past year
Required:
- Ability to accurately identify common Lake Michigan fish to species name
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Ability to approach anglers where they commonly fish - this includes piers and breakwaters, rocky shorelines, open sand, cobble beaches, and along streams and rivers over uneven terrain
- Ability and willingness to work in inclement weather
- Ability to work all weekends and holidays, as well as early morning and late evening hours according to an irregular assigned schedule
- Availability to work through September 30
Preferred:
- Prior completion of fisheries related college courses
- Prior experience working or volunteering in fisheries
