LTE Wildlife Technician (Wausaukee or Peshtigo)

The Wisconsin DNR is hiring an LTE (Limited Term Employee) – Wildlife Technician, in Wausaukee or Peshtigo, WI.

This position is responsible for a broad range of technical support for the wildlife management program under the guidance of a Wildlife Biologist or Wildlife Technician - Advanced. Work duties mainly include working on habitat management activities and the use and maintenance of DNR equipment.

50% Assist with implementation of priority habitat management activities. Includes, but is not limited to: operation of equipment, mowing brush, boundary work, installing prescribed fire breaks with equipment, supporting infrastructure, application of herbicide, and potential participation in prescribed fire operations.

30% Maintain DNR equipment and facilities. Perform routine maintenance of equipment, signage, and infrastructure.

10% Assist with the implementation of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) management and surveillance. Collect and process biological samples according to established protocols.

10% General program support as needed, including completion of monthly reports and maintaining accurate records.

This position pays $16.75 per hour and is in pay schedule and range 06-12. Compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and will not automatically lead to permanent state employment or be entitled to the same benefits as permanent employees.

Special Requirements:

1) Residency: To be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.

A Wisconsin resident is a person who:

a. Has established a residence, as defined in s. 6.10(1), in this state not less than 10 days earlier;

b. Has resided in this state for not less than a total of one year out of the immediately preceding 5 years;

c. Is eligible to register to vote in this state; or

d. Is the spouse of a person meeting the requirements of par. (a), (b), or (c).” s.230.03(12), Wis. Stats.

In addition to the required qualifications below, the selected candidate must be eligible to drive a state vehicle and meet the following criteria:

• Have a valid driver’s license
• Be at least 18 years of age
• Have a minimum of two years licensed driving experience
• Have not had three (3) or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two (2) years
• Have no OWI/DUI violations within the past year

Required Qualifications:

• Ability to work irregular shifts including early mornings, evenings, and weekends (rarely).
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience operating equipment relevant to the position's duties (ex. agricultural tractor w/mower, skid loader, chainsaw, UTV/ATV, small engines, hand tools, etc)
• Experience with equipment and facility maintenance/repair.
• Knowledge or experience in wildlife management or a related field.
