Introduction
The Department of Health Services (DHS) strives to protect and promote the health and safety of all people of Wisconsin through the efforts of a dedicated and diverse workforce. DHS works to ensure access to individuals, families, and communities to achieve positive health outcomes in the areas of abuse prevention, mental health, public health, family care, long-term care, and much more.
The Disability Determination Bureau (DDB) is currently recruiting to fill multiple part-time Medical and Psychological Consultant contractor positions. The DDB is located at 1400 E. Washington Avenue. Free onsite parking is available!
The DDB consists of approximately 200 employees, including some contractors. The DDB operates on a yearly budget of approximately $30 million funded by the Social Security Administration (SSA) to do medical determinations for SSA disability claims. The DDB also processes a small number of State Medicaid disability claims funded by DHS. The DDB must follow all SSA policies and regulations for safety, security and hiring as well as State of Wisconsin policies and regulations.
Applicants must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week. Hours are dependent on workload volume, and are not guaranteed.
Position Summary
The disability determination process requires consultation services from qualified doctors of medicine or osteopathy, psychiatrists, and clinical psychologists, hereinafter referred to variously as Consultants, on an ongoing basis in order to complete the disability determination function.
DDB consultants review chart notes and other documentation as part of the disability process and provide expert advice to examiner staff. Consultants do not have any direct patient contact.
DDB is accepting proposals from professionals with a wide variety of clinical and disability related experience. A Hybrid work model may be considered during and after the initial training period. This request has been designed to meet the needs of the agency while permitting a wide range of medical professionals to have the flexibility to meet the consulting specifications outlined.
Salary Information
The starting hourly pay for licensed medical doctors/physicians is up to $86.56/hour and up to $60.53/hour for psychologists for the first year depending on an applicant’s qualifications.
Job Details
All applicants who are appointed to this position will be required to go through a complete federal background investigation. A suitability determination by the Social Security Administration is necessary to determine whether an employee can be issued credentials in order to have access to Social Security disability data, records, and systems.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have the following:
- Must hold an unrestricted license in the State of Wisconsin as one of the following: Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy (Liability Insurance may be required)
- A Psychologist must:
- be licensed or certified as a psychologist at the independent practice level of psychology by the State in which he or she practices; AND EITHER
- possess a doctorate degree in psychology from a program in clinical psychology of an educational institution accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, formerly the Council on Post-Secondary Accreditation; OR
- be listed in the National Register of Health Service Psychologists which the Commissioner Of Social Security deems appropriate; AND
- possesses two years of supervised clinical experience as a psychologist in health service, at least one year of which is post master’s degree
