SUMMARY:
Load outbound finished goods, unload inbound and return product and maintain finished goods inventory. Ensure accuracy of all outbound shipments and provide final visual inspection of finished goods prior to the product leaving our facility. Maintain excellent customer service through safe, timely and accurate outbound shipments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Load outbound product on various types of equipment, including flatbeds, vans, intermodal containers, common carriers and rail box cars.
- Stage product in preparation for outbound shipment.
- Maintain finished goods warehouse in a safe, clean and orderly environment. Comply with established safety protocol and stacking policy. Participate in all ongoing continuous improvement and safety objectives.
- Ensure accuracy of finished goods inventory and participate in regular cycle counts and complete physical inventories. Work closely with Logistics Coordinator to ensure all finished good material is properly labelled and report discrepancies immediately.
- Interact with carriers greet drivers, assist them in getting their equipment into and out of the loading areas and scale, ensure product is loaded satisfactorily and provide necessary paperwork to ensure safe and legal transport once product leaves our facility.
- Operate yard tractor to efficiently and safely move unloaded and loaded containers and vans to and from the loading dock. Complete daily yard report. Complete pre-shift inspection.
- Operate air gun, power tools and hand tools to secure loaded product.
- Receives and unloads incoming product first comparing information on all documents for accuracy of shipment before actually unloading.
- Forklift certified with the ability to efficiently operate the forklift, unloaded or with a full load, in high forklift traffic areas, in and around work centers, amongst high volume pedestrian walkways and within close proximity to transportation equipment without any risk or damage to persons, property or product.
- Complete daily forklift inspections at the beginning and end of each shift and practice good housekeeping standards.
- Complete AX transactions as needed print work, print packing slips, print BOLs, etc. Email carriers to release loads. Understand the flow of paperwork through the office. Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
- Work independently of others and stay focused to tasks.
- Work productively, proactively and with a sense of urgency in an often hectic, fast-paced environment.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned, such as cleaning duties.
- Other duties as assigned by the Logistics Coordinator.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and efficiently. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Forklift driving experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Understand written work lists, including item numbers, serial numbers, quantities and item descriptions.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Must have good communication and listening skills.
- Maintain constant communication with Logistics Coordinator on daily tasks, load status, equipment maintenance, product quality and integrity of inventory accuracy.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- Ability to work with multiple digits quickly.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to analyze a load and determine how best to load it to the equipment specifications and the carriers satisfaction.
- Ability to analyze an overweight load and determine how best to rework the load efficiently to obtain the proper weight target and load distribution.
- Ability to understand warehouse layout and keeping to a minimum the amount of time, space and effort required to stage, store and/or load product so as to reduce the likelihood of damage to finished goods.
- Ability to define problems and draw a valid conclusion enabling you to work toward and/or implement the necessary solution to fix the problem.
- Attention to detail and demonstrated ability to organize.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Use of personal protective equipment (hearing protection and safety glasses) is required at all times.
- 80% of time is on the forklift, 20% of time between shipping office and on the warehouse floor.
- General mill environment, high noise, dust and traffic.
