Essential Functions

1. Assists Pharmacists in the procurement of medications for inpatient hospice patients.
2. Responsible for restocking medications into automated dispensing machines at the inpatient hospice facility.
3. Upon arrival at the hospice facility, the IPU Technician is responsible for receipt of the restock medication packages for the dispensing machine.
4. Verifies medication expiration dates during the restock process and assists with removal of expired medications to ensure patient safety protocols are followed.
5. Completes the necessary sign-off of restocked medications before leaving the inpatient hospice facility.
6. Responsible for the return of expired medications to the pharmacy via FedEx shipments.
7. Assists with inventory counting and controls, as necessary.
8. Collaborates with the hospice and pharmacy teams to ensure all automated dispensing machine medication needs are met.
9. Selects, counts, and verifies medication required for restocking, utilizing established procedures. Prepares FedEx label for shipment of medications.
10. Works cooperatively with fellow Pharmacy team members and others throughout the organization and with hospice partners.
11. Responsible for ensuring a neat, tidy, and organized automated dispensing machine.

1. Adheres to all HIPAA protocols for patient privacy.
2. Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Education, Licensure or Certification:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Certification as a Pharmacy Technician is preferred
- Licensed and Registered as a Pharmacy Technician by the State Board of Pharmacy where required by law
Work Experience or Related Experience:
- Prior experience in healthcare as a Pharmacy Technician
- Hospice and palliative care experience is preferred
- Knowledge of pharmacy/medical terms, abbreviations and symbols commonly encountered in a pharmacy required
- Experience with various web browsers: (Google Chrome / Firefox), Google Docs, Google Sheets, or similar software required
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while paying strict attention to detail required
- Prior experience with automated dispensing machines is preferred

- Travel to inpatient hospice facility is required
Work Environment, Conditions and Demands
- Work is performed in a professional, hospice inpatient unit, most often a medication room.
