STEAMworks For Kids is seeking a qualified, organized, and passionate Workshop Instructor to teach hands-on, in-person science and engineering workshops for kids ages 6-11 for at least two weeks this summer in WIlliston, VT. We are seeking an individual who is truly committed to and excited about sparking a child's curiosity to explore STEAM topics.
Our engaging and educational STEAM-based workshops encourage curiosity while learning. Each workshop is NGSS-aligned according to age and grade level, and optional lesson plans are provided that include a Responsive Classroom approach to delivery. Our motto: "We focus on learning so kids can focus on fun!" reflects our belief that every child has a unique and intrinsic ability to learn while having fun.
At a minimum, qualified applicants should:
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in a relevant subject
- Hold a current or former teaching license, OR show demonstrated ability and education that qualify for a license
- Have at least 1 year of experience with elementary-aged children in a classroom or enrichment setting
- Be upbeat, flexible, independent, and well-organized
- Be able to happily manage a casual classroom of up to 14 students on their own
- Have experience with SEL approaches, classroom management, and delivering lesson plans
- Be able to reliably commute to/from the advertised location with workshop materials
- Be available from 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday, June 23-27 and/or July 28 - August 1
All supplies and activities are provided including suggested lesson plans, and training is available if desired prior to delivering the workshop.
Our pay rate is $40/hour, and each workshop runs for 17.5 hours over 5 days for a total of 35 possible workshop hours, M-F 8am-12:30pm and 12:30pm-4:00pm. The ability to commute to and from workshop locations, with workshop materials, is required.
We offer additional paid time each day for lunch coverage from 12:30pm-1:00pm if both AM and PM workshops are running the same day, for up to a 37.5-hour workweek.
Most Instructors enjoy working with us for several seasons, and school-year opportunities are also available during school vacation weeks and summer sessions. This is a great opportunity for a classroom, afterschool, or retired educator to enjoy creative freedom and fun with kids while making some extra money! We are family friendly and any Instructor's children are welcome to attend our workshops free of charge.
