Position Objective
To construct, repair and maintain County roadways and bridges. This position is responsible for operating light and heavy construction and maintenance equipment, motor vehicles, and performing manual labor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Operates heavy equipment including, single axle and tandem trucks, pavers, motor graders, shouldering machine, front-end loaders, skid steers, water truck, loader, and street sweeper.
2. Plows and wings snow and applies ice control materials to County roads in an effort to maintain safe roadways.
3. Installs and/or repairs bridges, culverts, fences, guard rails and snow fences.
4. Cuts brush and trees with hand and power tools; uses shovels to load and distribute fill and patching material and removes snow on bridges.
5. Fills patches and cracks of bituminous roadways.
6. Hauls material including fill, gravel and bituminous mix.
7. Removes debris and dead animals from roadways and ditches.
8. Performs routine preventive maintenance on equipment; assists in the performance of mechanical repair of equipment to ensure safe and proper working condition of all tools and equipment.
9. Attends work in a regular and timely manner.
10. Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
In order to be considered for this position, applicants must possess the following:
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Two years of experience in the operation of highway construction and/or maintenance equipment
- Valid CDL - Minnesota Class A driver's license without restrictions
- Tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain with six months of employment
- Able to report to work within 45 minutes if necessary
- Experience using a personal computer
- Snow removal and ice control operations in a road system environment
- Maintenance Worker with a County, City or State office
- Vocational training with experience in the operation and maintenance of light construction and maintenance equipment
- Making minor repairs and adjustments to service equipment
- Experienced in the operation of trucks, tractors and other light automotive equipment
1. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a variety of highway construction and maintenance equipment.
2. Knowledge of the operating hazards and safety precautions related to such equipment.
3. Skill in the operation of large tractor mower, front end loader, single axel and tandem truck with plow and wing, tractor backhoe, paver, steel roller, dozer and track excavator.
4. Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments and to service equipment including chain saw, concrete saw, jackhammer, brush chipper, shouldering equipment.
5. Ability to perform strenuous work involving heavy and repetitive lifting under varying weather conditions.
6. Ability to interpret engineering plan specifications and survey markings.
7. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.Accountabilities Shared By All Employees

Work Environment and Physical Demands
The primary responsibilities for this position will be performed approximately 85% of the time outdoors and 15% indoors. Work is performed under the general direction of the Operations Supervisor.

The hours for this position are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Summer hours: 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday (starting the week prior to Memorial Day through Labor Day). Must be available for call outs for seasonal and emergency operations.
