This position is responsible for operating light and heavy construction and maintenance equipment, motor vehicles, and performing manual labor. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThese examples do not include all possible responsibilities in this position and do not limit the assignment of related duties to this classification.1. Operates heavy equipment including, single axle and tandem trucks, pavers, motor graders, shouldering machine, front-end loaders, skid steers, water truck, loader, and street sweeper.2. Plows and wings snow and applies ice control materials to County roads in an effort to maintain safe roadways.3. Installs and/or repairs bridges, culverts, fences, guard rails and snow fences.4. Cuts brush and trees with hand and power tools; uses shovels to load and distribute fill and patching material and removes snow on bridges.5. Fills patches and cracks of bituminous roadways.6. Hauls material including fill, gravel and bituminous mix.7. Removes debris and dead animals from roadways and ditches.8. Performs routine preventive maintenance on equipment; assists in the performance of mechanical repair of equipment to ensure safe and proper working condition of all tools and equipment.9. Attends work in a regular and timely manner.10. Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.

Minimum QualificationsIn order to be considered for this position, applicants must possess the following: High school graduate or equivalentTwo years of experience in the operation of highway construction and/or maintenance equipmentValid CDL - Minnesota Class A driver's license without restrictionsTanker endorsement or the ability to obtain with six months of employmentAble to report to work within 45 minutes if necessaryExperience using a personal computerPreferred Experience Beyond Minimum Qualifications: Snow removal and ice control operations in a road system environmentMaintenance Worker with a County, City or State officeVocational training with experience in the operation and maintenance of light construction and maintenance equipmentMaking minor repairs and adjustments to service equipmentExperienced in the operation of trucks, tractors and other light automotive equipmentDesirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities1. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a variety of highway construction and maintenance equipment.2. Knowledge of the operating hazards and safety precautions related to such equipment.3. Skill in the operation of large tractor mower, front end loader, single axel and tandem truck with plow and wing, tractor backhoe, paver, steel roller, dozer and track excavator.4. Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments and to service equipment including chain saw, concrete saw, jackhammer, brush chipper, shouldering equipment.5. Ability to perform strenuous work involving heavy and repetitive lifting under varying weather conditions.6. Ability to interpret engineering plan specifications and survey markings.7. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

Hours of WorkThe hours for this position are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Summer hours: 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday (starting the week prior to Memorial Day through Labor Day). Must be available for call outs for seasonal and emergency operations.
