Applications will be reviewed in batches based on the date the application was submitted. Position ObjectiveTo assist with maintenance activities on the County's highway system. This position is responsible for installing and repairing traffic signs on County roads, bridges and other facilities. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThese examples do not include all possible responsibilities in this position and do not limit the assignment of related duties to this classification. 1. Assists with installing and maintaining highway signs, posts, guardrails and fences. 2. Carries signs and performs other lifting and moving of heavy objects and materials. 3. Removes brush and trees from roadways using hands and power tools. 4. Cuts trees and brush with hand power tools. 5. Assists Maintenance Workers as needed. 6. Assists the Mechanic as needed. 7. Attends work regularly and in a timely manner. 8. Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Minimum Qualifications In order to be considered for this position, applicants must possess the following: Must be at least 18 years of age as of June 1, 2025Possess a valid Minnesota driver's licensePreferred Experience Beyond Minimum Qualifications: Experience in the operation of road and maintenance equipmentExperience performing routine preventative maintenance on various types of motor vehicles/equipmentDesirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities1. Knowledge of highway sign creation, placement, and installation.2. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a variety of light and moderately complex construction and maintenance equipment.3. Knowledge of the Stearns County highway system.4. Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions involved in the use of tools, equipment, and vehicles associated with sign creation, complex construction and maintenance equipment.5. Ability to perform strenuous work under varying weather conditions.6. Ability to maintain a safe work environment.7. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

Hours of WorkThis position has a normal work schedule of 6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
