We are currently accepting applications from college students interested in a social work internship in the public sector. We invite students enrolled in a bachelor program. One intern will be accepted to begin in Fall 2025.

Internship Objective:
To introduce an intern to Stearns County social work services with persons experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness and persons experiencing mental health and/or chemical health issues. The intern will observe and assist individuals and families experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk of homelessness. This assignment will include working in a collaborative team approach with community partners, including law enforcement, court personnel, attorneys, medical and mental health providers, corrections, and other members of the community. This internship will be in the Adult Mental Health A and B units and will consist of meetings in the community, clients’ homes, and in the office. This is a paid position.
Interns can expect to gain experience in understanding:
- County systems including Eligibility Services, Social Service Information System (SSIS), Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) and Client Record Management (CRM)
- Data privacy and ethical considerations
- Building professional relationships and collaborations within the agency and with community partners
- Participate in the Project Connect Planning Group and Point-in-Time (PIT) Count Planning Group.

- Assessment and interviewing skills
- Knowledge of community housing options and funding sources.
Qualified Candidates will possess:
- Current enrollment in an accredited college pursuing a degree in social work, sociology, psychology or another closely related major.
- Undergraduates must be in their junior or senior year at the time of internship.
- Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher.
- Ability to commit to 480 hours for internship.
- Ability to conduct oneself professionally and effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.
Interview Date
If you are selected to be interviewed for this internship, interviews will be held on a future date to be determined. Invitations to interview will be based upon an assessment of education and area of study. Students may be required to submit a college transcript.
