The Stearns County Historical Society (d.b.a.) Stearns History Museum is a place to learn, discover and discuss history. The Museum is connected to our community through public programs, publications and professional association. We are stewards of stories and protectors of the artifacts and archives that tell those stories. We engage audiences of all ages and welcome all to visit, learn, and explore.
Our museum galleries and research center are open 5 days per week, Tuesday-Saturday. We operate year round. The Stearns History Museum is the anchor of the City of St. Cloud’s Heritage Park, an 80-acre nature park with walking trails, abundant wildlife, and a skateboard park.
Primary Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the maintenance of the building and grounds. This includes plumbing, electrical, HVAC, lighting, and other mechanical systems maintenance in the building. We are looking for a candidate with some prior mechanical or building maintenance experience, who can take initiative with preventative maintenance and corrective action as issues arise. The ideal candidate must also be able to communicate effectively with other staff members, visitors, and outside vendors that he/she might encounter in this position.
The Building Maintenance Technician is responsible for assisting the Exhibit Curator in maintaining the appearance, safety and cleanliness of the facility. The Building Maintenance Technician assures that both guests and staff have a clean and safe environment in which to visit and work.
Main Duties
- Coordinate repairs and services on the building and equipment with service contractors including lawn and janitorial services
- Maintain records for equipment, remove records for equipment no longer owned
- Monitor cleanliness of facility and communicate any janitorial needs to the cleaning service; in the temporary absence of the cleaning service, provide janitorial services
- Perform basic light maintenance including, but not limited to replacing light bulbs, filling water softener, changing water filters, and assisting staff with general maintenance projects as requested
- Set up meeting room rentals and programs
- Communicate verbally and in writing to Curator of Exhibits or Executive
- Director when you observe a maintenance problem with building, machinery/mechanical equipment including electrical, lighting, plumbing, fountain, lawn sprinkler system, fire and security systems
- Perform grounds maintenance including trash removal/pick up, plaza sweeping, minor tree and shrub maintenance, mow berms.
- Snow Removal assistance and de-icing sidewalk
- Maintain inventory for maintenance supplies & communicate in writing to Office Administrator when supplies are needed
- Recommend, prioritize and support planning for larger exterior maintenance projects
- Monitor and maintain exterior building and recommend repairs/replacements for larger capital projects
Schedule: Regular hours Tuesday-Friday 7am – 12 pm. Special event weekends and periodic on call overnights, scheduled in advance, will require an adjustment to this schedule.
Qualifications:
· High School Diploma,
· Valid Driver’s License,
· Willingness and Ability to Pass Criminal Background Check
Work Experience: Minimum of five years in maintenance
Skills and Knowledge: Basic computer skills. Able to interact professionally with people of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand and/or walk. Employee is required to use hands and fingers to handle and feel as well as reach with hands and arms. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to follow safety instructions on all chemicals and equipment used to perform maintenance.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 20 per week
