Position Overview:
Function as Stearns Business Development Professional, specializing in premeasured liquid concentrates and ultra-concentrated industrial cleaning chemicals as well as household, soaps, detergents, dairy chemicals, and disinfectants. This Business Development Professional will develop sales programs for all accounts both in the wholesale to retail sector (B2B) in the markets of hardware store chains, hypermarket chains and big box stores. Additionally, be able to support the outside sales representatives who are marketing to industrial and institutional (I & I) end-users or distributors in the Jan San industry. Grow private label programs in the area of cleaning chemicals.
Note: This position requires regular travel a few days a month.
Responsibilities:
- Work with outside sales reps by telephone and in the field. Identifying Jan/San opportunities within accounts. Put together pricing bids, rebates, and track product shipments on existing orders.
- Canvas B2B wholesale to retail opportunities in the Household Essentials market and pitch product.
- Develop an in-depth knowledge of the product line and put together cleaning programs that fit the needs of the merchant or distributor.
- Knowledge of basic janitorial equipment.
- Understanding chemical and cleaning products, and applications.
- Educate the sales representatives and improve their product knowledge.
- Communicate new products and market trends regularly.
- Work with Jan San manufacturers sales reps nationally.
- Work with retail buyer/merchants to cost and plan household essential items in their planogram assortment.
- Responsible for performance management of manufacturers’ representatives nationwide.
- Conduct product training for rep force regularly. Create training tools and PowerPoints and present during sales meetings.
- Attend trade shows, call on customers and pitch product.
- Work with the company product development team, graphic arts department, and upper management to price, create bids and private label programs.
- Ability to interface at customer’s most senior levels – develop and deliver presentations virtually or in person.
- Applicants must be willing to work full time on-site in Madison, Wisconsin, ensuring direct involvement with local operations and teams.
- Assist the other in-house team with day-to-day functions such as entering data in the system and paper filing. Assisting in processing payables and receivable data entry and collections. This requires a learning Microsoft Dynamics GP.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor's degree in sales, marketing or accounting . Advanced degree preferred.
- 2 years’ experience in Sales, Marketing, Technical, Business, or Market Development preferred but will train a new graduate.
- Ability to effectively work with technical people, production associates and senior executives.
- Ability to foster a collaborative relationship in a cross-functional team and with customers.
- Ability to analyze business and technical requirements and propose a solution that exceeds customer expectations and increases the company's economic value.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with internal marketing, sales and production and support partners, maintaining regular communication on key opportunities and customers through scheduled meetings and informal channels.
- Market Insights: Monitor product, marketplace trends and data to inform sales strategy and execution.
- Strong computer and phone skills including excel, adobe, e-mail, Teams, Canva, PowerPoint.
- Willingness to learn the product line and become the expert educator.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
