Job Title : Quality Inspector and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Personnel - Aerospace
Position Overview : We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Level 2 Fluorescent Penetrant Inspector (FPI) and Quality Inspector for an aerospace company. This is a day-shift position, with compensation based on experience. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques, and / or quality inspection standards, and aerospace manufacturing processes. The role involves the responsibility for ensuring the highest level of quality assurance, utilizing both visual and non-destructive inspection techniques, including the ability to evaluate and verify the integrity of materials and components.
Key Responsibilities :
Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) - Fluorescent Penetrant Inspector :
Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI) : Perform FPI on aerospace components to detect surface-breaking defects such as cracks or burs, following industry standards and specifications.
Knowledge of NDT Procedures : Be thoroughly familiar with the scope and limitations of FPI, and proficient in interpreting and evaluating results according to industry codes, standards, and contractual documents.
Equipment Setup & Standardization : Set up and standardize NDT equipment, ensuring calibration and compliance with specifications. Process parts for inspection and perform system performance checks.
Training and Supervision : Mentor and direct the work of trainees and Level 1 personnel, ensuring proper use of FPI techniques and adherence to safety and quality standards.
System Performance Checks : Conduct regular system performance checks in accordance with applicable process standards, documenting results and recommending corrective actions as necessary.
Documentation : Maintain detailed records of inspections, system checks, and non-conformance findings in a paperless environment, ensuring traceability and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Quality Inspector :
Blueprint Reading and GD&T Knowledge : Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and detailed drawings. Utilize knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to verify conformance to design requirements.
Dimensional Inspection : Perform dimensional inspections using a variety of tools and techniques, including :
Micrometers
Calipers
Height Gage
Surface Plate Layout
Attention to Detail : Perform detailed inspection tasks with a strong focus on accuracy and quality, ensuring all parts and assemblies meet design specifications.
Computer Literacy : Utilize computer systems for data entry, reporting, and document control. Proficiency in paperless record-keeping and quality management software is required.
DSQR Experience : Experience in the role of Designated Supplier Quality Representative (DSQR) is a plus, ensuring adherence to aerospace industry quality standards.
Inspection Documentation : Maintain accurate inspection records, including non-conformance reports (NCRs) and corrective actions. Ensure compliance with all quality standards and applicable aerospace regulations.
Qualifications :
Experience : Minimum of 1 years in non-destructive testing (specifically FPI) and / or quality inspection in the aerospace industry. Associate’s degree in science or engineering is a plus.
Certifications :
Previous Level 2 Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection Certification per NAS 410 or equivalent standard is a plus.
Familiarity with aerospace quality standards (e.g., AS9100) is highly desirable.
Certification in GD&T (e.g., ASME Y14.5) is an asset.
Knowledge & Skills :
Strong knowledge of NDT processes, equipment, and standards.
Proficient in the use of standard inspection tools and techniques (micrometers, calipers, height gages).
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with a commitment to quality and safety.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting and documenting inspection results.
Physical Requirements : Ability to work in a production environment, stand for long periods, and handle heavy parts for inspection.
