Duties
- Manage incoming and outgoing referral requests from patients and healthcare providers.
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for referred patients.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations while handling sensitive patient information.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation related to referrals.
- Utilize medical coding knowledge (ICD-10, ICD-9) to ensure proper coding of referrals.
- Collaborate with dental offices and medical offices to coordinate patient care effectively.
- Communicate with managed care organizations regarding referral authorizations.
- Assist in resolving any issues related to referral processing or insurance verification.
Skills
- Proficient in medical coding, particularly ICD-10 and ICD-9.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and healthcare practices.
- Experience in a medical office or dental office setting is preferred.
