Maintenance Reliability Engineer

Purpose:
The Reliability Engineer is responsible for enhancing the reliability and performance of both new and existing equipment. This role involves analyzing data, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing preventative maintenance strategies to minimize downtime and optimize production efficiency. The reliability engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to identify improvement opportunities, develop reliability-centered maintenance plans, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards. A key focus will be on utilizing engineering principles and best practices to drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational reliability and reduce costs. The Reliability Engineer will lead initiatives in maintenance improvement methodologies, including PM Optimization, RCM, RCA, and FMEA, and will possess expertise in predictive maintenance techniques such as vibration analysis, ultrasound testing, and thermography.
Duties:
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve maintenance strategies for both new and existing equipment at the site
- Leads initiatives to enhance the reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, facilities, controls, and safety/security systems
- Manages and develops critical spare requirements
- Assists in the development and execution of training programs for maintenance associates that apply to operations, maintenance, and safety.
- Implement maintenance strategies and processes across the site by working with peers11
- Oversee the Site Change Management Program, including leading Risk Assessments, test planning and the Project Review Process
- Analyze patterns in equipment failure data to develop P-F Curves and establish intervals for potential failures, using this information to prioritize maintenance tasks and minimize downtime effectively
- Identify and implement process equipment improvements utilizing reliability-based maintenance philosophy.
- Carries out root cause analysis on equipment failures and responds appropriately to prevent failures from reoccurring.
- Collaborate with the Planner/Scheduler to ensure that Preventative and Predictive Maintenance work orders are scheduled and executed on time, and that any resulting corrective work is prioritized and addressed promptly
- Optimize and enhance maintenance practices wherever possible to ensure efficient and reliable operation of the plant, processes, and equipment, while safeguarding and extending the economic lifespan of plant assets at minimal cost
- Maintain accurate records of reliability analyses, maintenance activities, and improvements implemented.
Skills:
- Proven ability to analyze complex systems and equipment to identify and resolve reliability issues.
- In-depth knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication processes, particularly within the steel industry.
- Familiarity with equipment systems, controls, and their impact on plant operations.
- Strong leadership abilities, with a focus on driving results through teamwork and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to influence and mentor teams to achieve both short-term and long-term reliability goals.
- Experience using Maintenance Management Software (MMS), including work order management, preventive maintenance (PM) processes, and spare parts inventory systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for data analysis, reporting, and presentations.
- Strong communication skills can articulate technical issues and solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A proactive, solution-oriented mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and handle complex problems in a fast-paced environment.
Minimum:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field)
- Minimum of 5 year’s experience in Reliability Engineering or a related field which could include experience in maintenance, operations, or process improvement
- Strong understanding of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM) methodologies.
- Previous leadership experience in managing teams or projects within an engineering or maintenance environment.
Preferred:
- American Society for Quality – Certified Reliability Engineer (ASQ CRE)
- Proficiency with SAP Maintenance Management module
- Experience planning and coordinating maintenance activities, with a focus on optimizing equipment reliability and uptime.
Salary Range: This position's estimated annual base salary is $97,156.00 - $145,734.00. Actual base salary will be dependent on an individual’s skills, qualifications, and experience. This role is eligible for 401k Savings plan, Healthcare (medical, dental and vision), and other generous rewards.
