The Payroll Manager is responsible for oversight of all tasks involved in processing weekly payroll. Reporting to the Financial Controller, this position has a range of duties which include oversight of all payroll activities including collecting timesheets, calculating wages, and ensuring employees receive their accurate pay on time.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage, oversee, and collaborate in the daily operations of the payroll team including:
o Work performed by payroll specialist and other members of the team
o Calculation of all pay types as well as deductions and needed corrections
o Manage the distribution of all payroll-produced documents
o Maintenance of payroll records
o Training of new members of the payroll team and training entire team on new processes
o Investigation and resolution of payroll discrepancies
o Creation and submission of weekly and periodic payroll reports
o Completion and submission of Certified Payroll documentation
• Establish and enforce proper payroll methods, policies, and principles
• Coordinate with other departments within the company as necessary for improved customer service
• Improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions for the team
• Assign projects and review work ensure compliance and accuracy
• Assist with financial statement review
• Lead, supervise, and develop your direct report, the payroll specialist, including providing input on or completing performance appraisals, partnering with Human Resources as needed to ensure top performance of all team members
• Work with external auditors as needed to ensure all required audits are completed in a timely and accurate manner
• Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or equivalent; advanced degree in accounting or related field preferred.
• Minimum of three years of payroll experience, preferably in construction (Required)
• Minimum of three year of Vista Viewpoint payroll experience (Required)
• Minimum of three years of certified payroll experience (Required)
• Minimum of three years of supervisory experience
• Ability to take ownership of the work and willingness to contribute where needed
• Solid knowledge of payroll principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations
• Ability to maintain a high level of integrity, confidentiality, and trustworthiness
• Exceptional communication skills
• Superior customer service skills
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to direct and supervise staff
• Advanced computer skills, including extensive experience with Microsoft Office suite programs
