Overall Job Description:
Stellant Systems Inc. (Stellant) is excited to offer an Onsite Project Engineer role supporting Xenon Ion Propulsion (XIPS) and Power Controller (XPC) production at our Torrance facility. Stellant is an industry leader in electric propulsion, delivering XIPS or other thruster systems since 1995. This role will be primarily tasked with supporting production and test, troubleshooting hardware, providing EEE component guidance for the XPC high voltage power supply for the XIPS product, as well as you will support production, continuous improvement, customer needs and future development efforts in the fields of ion thrusters, electric propulsion, and high voltage power supplies. As project engineer, you will also be responsible for technical support throughout the life cycle of a program: from the mentioned development, then on to procurement, manufacturing, testing, troubleshooting and customer reporting. This role will support business development, proposals and program management functions as needed as well as supporting Stellant’s busy Space Traveling Wave Tube (TWT) Team as needed.
Responsibilities
- High voltage power supply circuit design.
- Testing and troubleshooting of circuits
- Supporting customer meetings, milestones (CDR, PDR, MRR …) and guiding the team through those events.
- Actively seek out innovative technologies and oversee new product development to ensure continued industry leadership.
- Support new business activity through proposal review and improvements on current design
Development of new gridded ion thruster produce
- Executing development plan
- Releasing thruster print package
- manufacturing and testing new gridded ion thruster
- Develop an overarching understanding of the process that go into a XIPS unit.
Work as a lead member of a multidisciplinary engineering team to develop or troubleshoot design and production needs to meet performance, cost and schedule metrics
Support bid and proposal activities, including analyzing customer specifications to evaluate feasibility and cost
Communicate effectively with vendors, customers, and other Stellant personnel
- Perform modeling and design engineer tasks on current or future products
Qualifications
- Engineering Degree in a related field, Physics or EE preferred, with post graduate work a plus.
- Specialist: Minimum of 4 years experience as a project engineer, design engineer or similar, with work in the space industry a massive plus.
- Senior Specialist: Minimum of 6 years experience as a project engineer, design engineer or similar, with work in the space industry a massive plus.
- Knowledge of circuit design tools a plus
Experience in project engineering, satellites, electric propulsion or plasma physics, electron beam or vacuum equipment is preferred.
- Knowledge of the design, manufacturing or testing of electric propulsion, dispenser cathodes, ion sources or other vacuum technologies is a plus
- Capable of providing technical support and guidance to a team of engineers and operation individuals to meet production needs
- Experience in interpreting customer specifications into test requirement and comparing against test data
- Hands on engineering experience with high voltage circuits, power supplies and/or space products a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills, utilizing industry-standard root cause corrective action (RCCA) methodologies.
