Core Technical Engineer - Suspension & Sensors

The Core Technical Engineer (CTE) for Chassis Vehicle Leveling Sensors (VLS) and Semi-Active Damping Accelerometers (ADS) ensures that sensor designs meet quality, performance, timing, and cost objectives in line with Program Development targets. This role serves as the single point of contact for the global mechatronics organization regarding vehicle leveling sensors and accelerometers. Responsibilities include creating component-level specifications & best practices, compiling lessons learned, creating component technology roadmaps, establishing supplier strategies, and offering technical support to regional Design and Release Engineers (DRE).

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure sensors comply with quality, performance, timing, and cost objectives in accordance with Program Development targets.
  • Serve as the single point of contact for the global mechatronics organization for vehicle leveling sensors and accelerometers.
  • Provide specifications and technical support to regional Core Technical Engineers and Design and Release Engineers (DRE).
  • Define the strategic roadmap for advanced programs for vehicle leveling sensors and accelerometers.
  • Meet the Voice of Customer (VOC) and translate customer requirements into technical specifications.
  • Lead homologation discussions and establish new global design guidelines for Stellantis.
  • Ensure global compliance with technical requirements and support the global function in all transversal activities pertaining to vehicle leveling sensors and accelerometers.
  • Develop technical specifications and testing methods to overcome lessons learned and implement best practices from previous programs.
  • Develop and maintain core boundary diagrams, interface matrices, parameter diagrams, Design for Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA), and Design Validation Plan and Report (DVP&R) for vehicle leveling sensors and accelerometers.
  • Support sensor integration and proper function with surrounding components, network communications, and Electronic Control Units (ECUs).
  • Perform benchmarking, competitive analysis, and investigations on new sensor technology.
  • Meet with current and prospective supply base to understand new technologies and sensor innovations.
  • Support quality and warranty initiatives with technical specifications and evaluations.
  • Ensure part variation and failure modes are addressed in an expedited way to improve customer satisfaction.
  • Support business case studies and develop innovative ways of meeting required functional objectives and technical specifications with reduced investment.
  • Work with Purchasing to develop strategic sourcing plans with current and future suppliers for vehicle leveling sensors and accelerometers.
  • Specify technical requirements for advanced programs and evaluate suppliers’ technical capabilities during the sourcing process.
  • Accountable for the technical evaluation during the Request for Quote (RFQ) process for vehicle leveling sensors and accelerometers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related degree field.
  • 5 years of engineering experience in the automotive industry.
  • Mechatronic component design and release experience.
  • Understanding of chassis sensors and physical integration in vehicles.
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Experience with global project management and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in advanced CAD software such as NX, CATIA or SolidWorks.
  • Experience designing and operating electrical test benches for software integration.
  • Demonstrated experience with network communications: Class2, CAN, LIN, or Ethernet.
  • Demonstrated experience with calibration and diagnostic tools such as CANalyzer, CANoe, INCA, Witech, or CDA.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity standards and practices related to automotive sensors and ECUs.
  • Experience designing and writing vehicle specifications such as Performance Specifications (PFs), Vehicle Function Specifications (VFs), Plant Process Standards (PS), Design Practices (DPs), and component diagnostics requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience with Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and Reactive Problem-Solving Tools.
  • Working knowledge of Stellantis Change Management Systems (CCD/CNs) and Chrysler Product Creation Process (CPCP) and
  • Electrical Engineering Development Process (EEDP).
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
