Title : Mechanical Project Engineer
Location : Tuscaloosa, Alabama ( Onsite)
The Mechanical Engineer will provide leadership, design, installation & startup support for projects. In addition, this person will be involved with some project management functions. They will report to the active Engineering manager.
Role Responsibilities :
Provide Mechanical Engineering design & Project Management for assigned projects.
Provide Machine Design and adaptation engineering for assigned projects while applying design standards.
Provide Management of Mechanical contractor or maintenance installation teams during equipment modifications & machine installations through Start-up and Commissioning.
Perform Feasibility Studies based on a Functional Specification and write Technical Specifications on assigned projects.
Create Budgetary Estimates and Bid Packages on assigned projects.
Order equipment and materials for assigned projects.
Provide Machine Trouble-shooting assistance during Commissioning of projects.
Create project documentation : Layout Drawings, Assembly Drawings, Detail Drawings, maintenance & operator training documents and user manuals.
Interface with Plant production & maintenance customers, other engineers, and suppliers.
Provide troubleshooting and equipment breakdown assistance as required.
Provide project updates to support project approvals and engineering indicators.
Must Have :
Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET), Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical education with 3 years' experience in an industrial manufacturing setting. Some limited travel may be required including international but not typical. (mainly USA, Mexico and Canada).
Current and continuous use and knowledge of SolidWorks (in addition AutoCAD or Draftsight 2D is also preferred), along with experience using a document management / Product Lifecycle Management system (or PLM) is required (Team Center being preferred).
Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, piping and fitting with design standards experience (OSHA, ASME, ANSI, ISO, etc) is also required.
Must have English as a first language or must have a fluency level of B2 or greater speaking English, i.e. The speaker can understand and express the main ideas of complex subjects and can have daily conversations on a wide variety of topics.
Proficient in Microsoft Office apps (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, Teams)
Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and resolve issues.
Well organized and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to network and develop positive relationships with team members and internal partners.
Management of internal and external contractors to accomplish objectives.
Detailed installation planning including risk assessment, timeline and step by step installation.
Experience in Project Team Leadership or Project Management in a manufacturing setting is preferred.
PMP Certification and / or LEAN certification a plus Experience with mechanics of materials, stress analysis and FEA is preferred.
Experience with lifting devices, cranes, jibs, below the hook devices and end-effectors.
Experience with measurement and vision system is preferred.
Managing correction of equipment non-conformities and acceptance.
