McConway & Torley is looking for an Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Inspector. In this role, you will be responsible for performing non-destructive testing (NDT) to assess the quality and integrity of steel castings produced at the foundry. You will ensure compliance with industry standards, customer specifications, and internal quality assurance requirements. This role is critical in identifying defects and ensuring that products meet safety and performance criteria.
Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Shift: Daylight – 6am- 2pm
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
- Performing ultrasonic inspections on steel castings to detect internal defects such as cracks, inclusions, and porosity
- Interpreting and evaluating test results according to applicable standards (e.g., ASTM, ASME, or customer-specific requirements)
- Calibrating and maintaining ultrasonic testing equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results
- Maintaining proper documentation for compliance with quality standards and audits.
- Ensuring adherence to relevant codes, standards, and procedures during testing
- Supporting internal and external audits related to non-destructive testing
- Collaborating with production and quality teams to ensure casting quality
- Providing feedback and recommend process improvements to reduce defects and enhance product reliability
- Reviewing Immersion Ultrasonic Test results and correlating to X-ray and hand U/T
- Working hands-on on a daily basis in the plant
- Ultimately determining if a part is acceptable or rejectable based on requirements
Required Qualifications:
- At least 2 years of experience in ultrasonic testing, preferably in a steel foundry or related industry
- Certification in Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Level I, or Level II as per ASNT (American Society for Nondestructive Testing) or equivalent is required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of ultrasonic testing principles, equipment, and techniques
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- Effective communication skills for reporting and collaboration
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), Materials Science, or related field preferred.
- Additional NDT certifications (e.g., MT, PT) are a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment (up to 75 lbs)
- Comfortable working in a foundry environment, which may involve exposure to heat, noise, and dust.
- Ability to stand, bend, and work in various positions for extended periods.
