What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director - Small Business Resource Hub position at Stephen F. Austin University?
This is a professional position responsible for supporting the Small Business Resource Hub through the provision of consultative services to small businesses on various topics, including but not limited to loan proposals, marketing, retailing, advertising, budgeting, business planning, and personnel management. Responsible for assistance with budget tracking, reporting, and implementing projects and activities aligned with the college’s mission. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. Reports to the director.
Essential Job Functions
1. Supports daily operations of the Small Business Resource Hub (SBRH) by assisting in the establishment of program goals and objectives, identifying priorities, contributing to resource allocation decisions, and supporting program evaluations.
2. Provides no-cost, one-on-one consulting services to small business clients, focusing on growth, financing, operational improvement, and new business creation. Makes appropriate referrals when necessary.
3. Assists in developing and implementing SBRH policies and procedures, collaborating with the director to ensure alignment with the hub’s mission and goals.
4. Acts as a resource for small business assistance within the Deep East Texas/East Texas region by identifying needs, networking with business leaders, and supporting economic growth initiatives.
5. Travels to client locations as needed to gather insight into their businesses and provide tailored support.
6. Builds and maintains relationships with business and industry leaders to identify training needs and assists with the coordination and delivery of seminars and continuing education classes.
7. Helps maintain the SBRH resource and information center, ensuring it is updated and efficient for client use.
8. Assists in collecting and analyzing client data to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services, providing recommendations for improvement.
9. Supports program assessments and collaborates on the development, implementation, and revision of services to meet identified goals and objectives.
10. Represents the SBRH and Greg Arnold Center for Entrepreneurship (ACE) by attending community and college events.
11. Collaborates with students and other groups, supporting activities related to the ACE.
12. Supervises and mentors student workers.
13. Stays informed of industry trends and emerging practices related to the area of responsibility.
14. Performs other assignments from the director of the ACE and the dean.
15. Acts on the director’s behalf in their absence.
Non-Essential Job Functions
1. May serve on local and regional committees and boards as appropriate and approved by supervisor.

Physical Demands Required Education
Bachelor’s degree in business, management, finance, entrepreneurship, public administration or a related field is required. Related experience may be substituted for required education on a basis set forth by the Department of Human Resources.
Required Experience and Training
Three years of experience in small business management, small business ownership and/or small business consulting is required. Additional education may substitute for experience on a basis set forth by the Department of Human Resources.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree is preferred. Experience in writing business plans is preferred. Ability to prepare basic financial forecasts and analyze and interpret financial statements is preferred. Experience in creating marketing plans is preferred. Knowledge of and/or experience in small business lending is preferred. Experience in management of a small business development center or equivalent is preferred. Knowledge of the Deep East Texas/East Texas region is preferred.
