What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Technician ITS Networking/Telecommunications position at Stephen F. Austin University?
This is a student position responsible for assisting in providing technical support to university faculty and staff. Position may be responsible for assisting in a variety of department functions including but not limited to: technical support for all endpoints; maintaining instructional environments; receiving and releasing computers and equipment for service; and resolving computer hardware/software issues. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Job Duties
1. Assists networking and telecom with daily break/fix issues and new installations.
2. Performs hardware/software maintenance and installation on networking and telecom devices and systems.
3. Assists with inventory.
4. Receives new technology hardware, provisions new hardware for deployment, delivers and trains on new equipment as necessary.
5. Retrieves equipment from the field; may include installation of temporary solutions.
6. Works with other technical departments in troubleshooting activities.
7. Assists with special projects as assigned.
8. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to climb a ladder and work from one to assist with equipment installation.
Special Conditions for Eligibility
A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
