Stephenson Equipment, Inc (SEI), an industry leader in Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland and Northern Virginia providing sales, rentals, parts and service for construction equipment, cranes, construction, and public works equipment has an immediate need for an Equipment Service Foreman at our Hagerstown, MD location. This role will assist in the management of the service shop as well as provide direction for field technicians. In addition, the role will provide excellent customer service both internally and externally.
Essential Functions
Position Core Competencies:
Experience in Heavy Equipment repair (or 5 years of relevant experience or training) and 2 years of management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills
Basic Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Skills
Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical And Work Environment
Combination of office and shop environment. Moderate to loud noise levels. Work requires a combination of sitting, using hands to finger, handle, or feel, as well as standing and walking. Occasional stooping, kneeling, or crouching as necessary to assist with equipment troubleshooting. Frequent lifting, up to 49lbs.

Essential Functions
- Responsible for the day-to-day operations, financial performance, and customer satisfaction of SEI service customers.
- Supervise service shop operations and oversee machine and equipment repairs.
- Provide direction and leadership to the Service Department
- Greet and assist customers dropping off units for service in person; on the phone; or electronically
- Oversee field service and repair of machines and equipment
- Field incoming service department calls and delegate or perform call requirements quickly.
- Provide proactive updates to customers on their work orders.
- Ensure new and used equipment are prepared properly
- Assist in conducting service meetings and training sessions to communicate company objectives and policies, to develop technical skills and to encourage employee participation and personal growth. Conducts meetings with the service group to discuss performance, standards and goals
- Continually monitor the progress of the department, and that of individuals in the service group
- Perform administrative duties related to repairs, labor, and warranty.
- Comply with all safety procedures
- Schedule maintenance for industrial machines and equipment, and keep equipment service records
- Effectively communicate and actively participate within a goal-orientated team environment
- Actively participate in problem solving and continuous improvement activities.
- Exhibit a strong sense of urgency and constant focus on daily efficiency and production.
- Follow safety first practices and be the example for others to follow. Hold other employees accountable for unsafe actions.
- Expectations include the ability to diagnose, repair, and guide technicians in the following with little or no supervision: Electrical Systems, Chassis Repairs, Hydraulic Systems, Perform all levels of preventive maintenance, Identify warrantable repairs and document using provided SEI processes, Maintain work area appearance and safety
- Record repair orders and job assignments in the dispatching system
- Coordinate special orders with the parts department
