Stephenson Equipment, Inc (SEI), an industry leader in Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland and Northern Virginia providing sales, rentals, parts, and service for construction equipment, cranes, construction, and public works equipment has an immediate need for a Used Equipment Manager.
The Used Equipment Manager is responsible for overseeing the sales, rental, and management of SEI’s used equipment inventory across multiple locations for construction equipment and public works equipment. This role ensures the strategic acquisition, pricing, and resale of used equipment, including trade-ins and rental fleet assets, to optimize profitability and inventory turnover.
The Used Equipment Manager can also sell new equipment in areas without OEM territorial restrictions. The Used Equipment Manager will work closely with the sales team, product managers, and external partners to maximize opportunities across multiple channels. This role is all about buying right and selling right—maximizing margin, velocity, and value in the used equipment space.
Essential Functions
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (or 5 years of relevant experience or training), 3 years with equipment sales, or similar industry sales, and 2 years of sales leadership experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read, interpret, and create documents such as training guides, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills
Intermediate Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Skills
High Skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical And Work Environment
Combination of office, shop, and field environment. Moderate to loud noise levels. Work requires a combination of sitting, using hands to finger, handle, or feel, as well as standing and walking. Occasional stooping, kneeling, or crouching as necessary to assist with equipment assessments. Frequent lifting, up to 25lbs.

Essential Functions
- Develop and execute strategies to grow used equipment sales and profitability.
- Inventory is upwards of approximately 865 units, including attachments.
- Responsibilities include sales, rentals, and rental purchase options (RPOs) for: used equipment, SEI rental fleet, new equipment (as allowed by OEM contracts), attachments.
- Source, appraise, and acquire high-quality used equipment at the right price.
- Develop and manage a used inventory budget, incorporating trade-ins, rental fleet assets.
- Set pricing strategies based on market trends, equipment condition, and sales velocity.
- Set and maintain gross profit (GP) targets.
- Lead a small team, including a Used Equipment Technician and administrative support.
- Oversee used equipment lifecycles – from acquisition to reconditioning to resale, across multiple branch locations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, customers, internal sales team members, and product managers, to leverage industry expertise and drive sales.
- Collaborate with Marketing to utilize multiple sales channels, including dealer sales/transfers, rental companies (national and regional), wholesalers, SEI sales teams, online sales and postings, social media, brokers, and auction platforms.
- Identify growth opportunities within various market segments, such as trade-in resale, regional expansion, and new product offerings.
- Develop efficient processes and team structures to achieve high sales volumes.
- Monitor and manage inventory levels and turnover rates.
