Job Summary
Mae Bell Farms in Berea, Kentucky is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and animal-loving Farm Hand to join our agricultural operations team. This position plays a vital role in the daily care of farm animals—including horses, cows, donkeys, and various small and large animals—as well as maintaining the grounds, fencing, barns, and overall appearance of the property. The ideal candidate will be physically fit, self-motivated, and passionate about farm life.
Daily Responsibilities
- Feed and water all animals according to established schedules, including horses, cows, donkeys, and various other livestock
- Clean stalls, pens, and feeding areas to maintain a sanitary environment
- Groom and provide basic health checks for horses and other animals, noting any signs of illness or injury
- Monitor animal behavior and well-being, and report concerns to the supervisor immediately
- Repair and maintain fences, gates, barns, and outbuildings to ensure safety and security of animals
- Operate farm machinery and equipment such as tractors, mowers, feeders, and ATVs
- Muck stalls, move hay bales, clean troughs, and rotate pastures as needed
- Maintain clean and organized feed and supply storage areas
- Assist with seasonal tasks such as baling hay, clearing snow, or preparing pastures
- Engage in routine groundskeeping such as mowing, weed-eating, trimming, and trash removal
- Help with loading/unloading of feed, supplies, or animals, and assist with veterinary or farrier visits when necessary
Requirements
- Prior experience working with farm animals, particularly equines and livestock, is strongly preferred
- Comfortable with physical labor, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working in all types of weather
- Able to follow daily care routines, written instructions, and maintain feeding/medication logs
- Basic knowledge of animal health and handling techniques
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining farm equipment (tractors, feeders, mowers, etc.)
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred
- High level of accountability, reliability, and strong work ethic
- Passion for animal care and a commitment to the well-being of all creatures on the farm
