POSITION SUMMARY:
The Marketing and Communications Specialist is responsible for the creation, distribution, and analytics of external and internal firm communications as well as supporting other content-driven functions of the Marketing and Business Development Department. The Marketing and Communications Specialist will develop, edit, and distribute content to various target audiences on several platforms (website, intranet, email, social media, etc.). The Marketing and Communications Specialist is expected to leverage their creative and technical skills and use critical thinking to support the firm’s strategic goals.
The position is required to work in the office full-time, five days a week, Monday - Friday. The department’s policy on remote work is that team members are eligible for remote work on a hybrid schedule after 12 consecutive months of full-time employment. The hybrid schedule includes a maximum of 2 days per week of remote work where the two days selected must be consistent week to week. Approval of a hybrid work schedule is contingent upon work performance, direct supervisor review and approval in addition to the reviews/approvals outlined in the firm’s remote work policy.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Drafts attorney bios, press releases, survey and nomination submissions, announcements, invitations, website content, presentations, ad copy, brochure content, and custom materials, for external consumption.
· Supports the writing, formatting, review, approval, and distribution process for client alerts and other content.
· Maintains and shares quarterly tracking and analytics reports on communication efforts and media tracking.
· Supports presentation development as needed.
· Serve as a point of contact for media inquiries and works with external publications and media contacts for the dissemination of firm news, events, announcements, and other appropriate content.
· Assists with pitch development and helping to pull content as needed.
· Provides event support such as developing invitation copy, distributing electronic invitations, and creating and maintaining invitation lists.
· Supports the production, implementation, and post-event follow-up items and tracking of the firm’s webinars.
· Performs marketing and business development research as needed and required.
· Coordinates with other team members to complete Marketing and Business Development goals and initiatives.
· Serves as a member of the internal proofing team, responsible for proofing internal and external messaging prior to publication, through approved proofing protocols and procedures.
· Identifies areas that can benefit from content review, refresh, and updates, as well as areas where content can be newly created and developed.
· Helps to add content to the firm’s website as needed, but especially for client alerts, press releases, announcements, events, and brochures.
· Additional duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
EDUCATION: Undergraduate degree required (Marketing, Journalism or English degree is preferred).
WORK EXPERIENCE: 3-5 years’ experience in a communications role. Experience in a law firm or professional services firm preferred.
Requirements:
· Strong understanding of communications, public relations, marketing, and execution of excellent customer service principles. Demonstrate sound judgment, prioritization, critical thinking skills, strong attention to detail, and have a sense of responsibility and accountability on processes, tasks, and projects.
· High-level ability to be proactive, work independently, self-identify tasks to take on, and use judgement in their work and understand when to escalate questions and issues.
· Ability to convey sometimes complex topics in a concise and clear manner using firm style guidelines.
· Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Access, PowerPoint and Excel). Working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, is a plus.
· Familiarity with social media tools, media monitoring tools, media databases and website content management systems. Experience with Constant Contact, JD Supra, Unbounce, WordPress, Agility, Hubspot, CVENT a plus.
Location: Position may be resident in one of Steptoe & Johnson’s West Virginia (Bridgeport, Charleston, Huntington, Martinsburg, Morgantown, Wheeling), Ohio (Columbus), Pennsylvania (Meadville, Southpointe, Pittsburgh), Kentucky (Louisville, Lexington), or Texas (The Woodlands, Dallas, Collin County, San Antonio) offices, with a preference for residence in Bridgeport, Morgantown, Wheeling, or Southpointe.
