Musician (Pianist/Keyboardist/Guitarist) – MCAS New River Chapel
Location: MCAS New River Chapel (AS-236), Jacksonville, NC
Job Summary:
The Musician will provide professional pianist, keyboardist, and/or guitarist services for worship services and religious events at the Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) New River Chapel. The role supports the Command Religious Program (CRP) by enhancing spiritual services through music. Responsibilities include performing during weekly worship services, choir rehearsals, special religious observances, and maintaining the chapel’s music library and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Worship Service Performance
- Provide live musical accompaniment for two weekly worship services:
- Catholic Mass: Sundays at 8:30 AM
- Protestant Service: Sundays at 11:00 AM
- Arrive at least 30 minutes before each service for preparation.
2. Rehearsals & Choir Support
- Conduct weekly choir rehearsals:
- Catholic Service: Wednesdays at 6:00 PM
- Protestant Service: Sundays at 10:00 AM
- Provide digital or printed sheet music to choir members before rehearsals.
- Lead Cantata choir rehearsals for Christmas and Easter performances.
3. Special Religious Events & Services
- Support up to 20 special services per year, including:
- Holy Days of Obligation
- Funerals & Memorials
- Other religious observances
- The musician will be notified at least 72 hours in advance of special services.
4. Musical Selection & Coordination
- Coordinate musical arrangements at least 3 days before each rehearsal or service.
- Maintain and manage both Protestant and Catholic music libraries, submitting recommendations for updates by May 1st each year.
5. Equipment Maintenance
- Ensure proper functioning of musical instruments, microphones, speakers, amplifiers, and soundboards.
- Report any equipment malfunctions immediately.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience: At least 2 years of experience playing in a church congregation.
- Musical Skills: Ability to sight-read music and proficiently play the piano, keyboard, and guitar.
- Knowledge of Religious Music: Familiarity with both liturgical and contemporary Christian worship formats.
- Music Direction: Ability to direct choirs and develop musical programs for religious services.
- Communication & Coordination: Strong ability to work with chaplains, choir members, and worship teams.
Provided Equipment:
- Instruments and sheet music will be provided.
- The musician is responsible for the care and proper use of all equipment.
Work Schedule:
- Sunday Services: Approx. 2 hours per week
- Rehearsals: 2 hours per week
- Special services: As scheduled (advance notice provided)
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 4 per week
