Position: Principal Controls Engineer
Location: Indianapolis, IN 46225 onsite
Duration: 12-24 months
I am looking for an experienced Principal Controls Engineer to lead and support the design, implementation, and optimization of advanced control systems for our pharmaceutical manufacturing operations. This role will focus on the deployment and maintenance of a process automation system to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant production processes in a GMP-regulated environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the design, configuration, and enhancement of DeltaV-based control systems in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
- Provide subject matter expertise and technical leadership for automation and control projects, including system upgrades and expansions.
- Troubleshoot control system issues and develop effective solutions to reduce downtime and improve reliability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality, engineering, and IT, to support system integration and operational excellence.
- Ensure control systems are compliant with GMP, FDA, and other applicable regulatory standards throughout their lifecycle.
- Develop and maintain control system documentation, such as user requirements, functional design specifications, and validation protocols.
- Train and mentor engineering and operations staff on best practices for DeltaV system usage and control strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
- 10 years of experience in automation or controls engineering, with significant expertise in a Process Automation system within pharmaceutical or life sciences manufacturing.
- Experience in GMP-compliant environments and regulatory requirements for automated systems.
- Demonstrated experience in control system design, implementation, and optimization using DeltaV.
- Familiarity with validation processes, data integrity standards, and cybersecurity best practices in manufacturing.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple automation initiatives in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
SKILLS
- Deep expertise in DeltaV control systems – design, troubleshooting, and optimization.
- Strong understanding of GMP, GAMP5, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, and other industry regulations.
- Proficiency in interpreting data to drive process improvements and system performance.
- Knowledge of control system lifecycle management, including change control and validation.
- Proven leadership, training, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
