Horticulturist

Job Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Horticulturist to join our team at Sterling Farms Golf Course. The horticulturist, under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, works to beautify the course property through the selection, propagation, purchase, installation and maintenance of ornamental plants and trees. If present, the horticulturst manages the greenhouse and nursery to produce and install ornamental landscaping for the golf course and clubhouse properties.. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in plant care and landscape maintenance, with the ability to manage various horticultural tasks effectively.

Responsibilities

• Designs flower beds and cultivates shrubs and flowers.
• Trims and prunes hedges and shrubbery.
• Manage irrigation systems to ensure optimal water distribution for plants.
• Applies pesticides and fertilizers to ornamental plantings.
• Utilize power tools and equipment, if needed, for landscaping tasks safely and efficiently.
• Collaborate with groundskeepers in routine maintenance of ornamental plantings.
• Advises the Superintendent of the need for tree trimming services.

Experience

• Associate degree or proven experience in horticulture, landscaping, or a related field is preferred.
• Knowledge of the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers, soil conditioners and pest control methods and materials.
• Knowledge of the characteristics, growth habits and proper cultivation of a wide selection of flowering bulbs, annuals, biennials and perennial plant materials, including both herbaceous and woody plants.
• May require a current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.
• Experience in golf course maintenance and the game of golf a plus.

Job Types: Full-time, Seasonal

Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour

Expected hours: 32 – 45 per week
