Overview:

The FOG Analysis Technician will perform laboratory analyses on n-Hexane Extractable Material (HEM) and Silica Gel-Treated HEM (SGT-HEM). This role involves preparing, processing, and analyzing samples following Sterling Labs' protocols while ensuring data accuracy through proper equipment calibration and quality control.

Specific Duties:

• FOG Analysis of n-Hexane extractable material (HEM) and silica gel-treated n-Hexane extractable material (SGT-HEM).
• Secondary Wet Chem tests

Key Responsibilities:

1. Prepare, digest, and analyze samples in alignment with lab SOPs.
2. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments.
3. Follow Sterling Labs' accepted methods and internal SOPs for sample processing and reporting.
4. Perform daily calibration checks on analytical equipment. Prepare and manage calibration standards, reagents, and control samples.
5. Analyze quality control samples, including blanks, spikes, and duplicates.
6. Document results in spreadsheets and Element 7 laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
7. Adhere to company safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
8. Monitor and address potential hazards, including spills and equipment malfunctions.
9. Accurately input data and prepare reports for internal and regulatory use.
10. Communicate findings with the WC Team Lead and other relevant departments.
11. Track and manage necessary supplies for successful test runs.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Instruments Used:

SPE systems, Analytical balances, Soxhlet Extractor, ovens, pH meters, water baths, LIMS

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Experience in laboratory settings, especially with water or wastewater analysis is preferred.
• Ability to learn and use laboratory information systems (LIMS), databases, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and draw conclusions.
• High level of organization with attention to rules and patterns for analysis and equipment setup.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds using proper lifting techniques.
• Ability to work in refrigerated storage areas for short periods.
• Ability to wear all required PPE for the position.
