Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) – VA Palo Alto Health Care System
Sterling Medical is seeking dedicated and compassionate Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) to join our team in supporting the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. We have openings at three locations: VA Palo Alto Health Care System, Menlo Park VA, and Livermore VA. CNAs will provide exceptional direct patient care in a hospital or long-term care setting under the supervision of Registered Nurses (RNs) or Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs). This role is essential in ensuring the comfort, safety, and overall well-being of patients while maintaining the highest professional standards of care.
Period of Performance: March 1, 2025 – February 8, 2030
Shift Schedule: Multiple shifts available, including:
- VA Palo Alto Health Care System:
- 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
- 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
- 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- 10:30 AM – 7:00 PM
- 11:30 AM – 8:00 PM
- 12:30 PM – 9:00 PM
- 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM
- Menlo Park VA & Livermore VA: Monday through Friday, hours to be confirmed based on the location and patient needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct patient care, including personal hygiene (bathing, dressing, toileting), meal assistance, mobility support, and patient lifting/movement.
- Monitor and document patient observations, behavior, and daily activities as directed by the supervising nurse.
- Perform various nursing care tasks such as recording vital signs, assisting with oxygen and suction equipment, and collecting samples (urine, stool, sputum).
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams, and provide support as a preceptor to new CNAs during their clinical orientation.
- Respond to emergent situations, including providing basic life support, preventing falls, and managing behavioral crises until additional help arrives.
- Promptly report any changes in a patient’s mental or physical status to the supervising nurse.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Active CNA certification/license in any U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Licenses must be full and unrestricted for all personnel working on VA property.
