The Commercial Underwriter is responsible for evaluating and underwriting insurance applications for businesses. This role involves analyzing risk, financials, and policy details to determine appropriate coverage and pricing for a variety of commercial clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and assess commercial insurance applications, including property, casualty, liability, and workers' compensation coverage.
- Analyze financial statements, risk factors, and industry trends to determine the appropriate underwriting approach.
- Negotiate and structure insurance policies with brokers, agents, and clients.
- Determine premiums, policy limits, deductibles, and coverage terms based on risk assessment.
- Collaborate with sales, claims, and risk management teams to ensure the proper handling of policy issuance and renewals.
- Stay informed about industry regulations, market trends, and underwriting guidelines.
- Communicate with clients and brokers to request additional information or clarify details related to applications.
- Maintain accurate underwriting files and ensure timely processing of applications, endorsements, and renewals.
- Assess and monitor the performance of existing commercial accounts, making adjustments as needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field.
- 5 plus years commercial underwriting.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risk and financial data.
- Good knowledge of underwriting guidelines, industry regulations, and insurance products.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
