Sterling Search Partners is helping a Birmingham Engineering firm with its search for a Water Engineer. We are seeking a highly motivated Engineer with expertise in municipal drinking water and wastewater systems including treatment plant and distribution/collection system design. Candidate will be responsible for planning, designing, and overseeing the construction and rehabilitation of water and wastewater facilities. This role requires a strong technical background, knowledge of environmental regulations, and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Development: Prepare calculations, engineering designs, and specifications for water and sewer treatment plants, pump stations, pipelines, and related infrastructure.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including EPA, state environmental agencies, and municipal codes.
- Project Management: Oversee project timelines, budgets, and deliverables while coordinating with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Technical Analysis: Conduct hydraulic modeling, process simulations, and system evaluations to optimize treatment plant performance.
- Construction Oversight: Provide engineering support during construction, including reviewing submittals, responding to RFIs, and conducting site inspections.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering (or a related field); a Master’s degree is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum 3-7 years of experience in water and wastewater treatment design.
- Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D. Knowledge of Revit, GIS, hydraulic modeling software (e.g., WaterCAD, SewerCAD) is a plus.
- Knowledge Base: Understanding of treatment processes, pump systems, water chemistry, and emerging technologies in water/wastewater engineering.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to manage multiple projects and work independently or within a team.
