What are the responsibilities and job description for the Septic Technician position at Sterling Septic?
Sterling Septic and Plumbing is an established septic and plumbing company providing services in King and Pierce County. We are a growing company looking for a Septic Technician to join our team. We are an essential service that is not affected by downturns in the economy like other trades may experience.
Pay Range: $26 - $36 p/hr based on experience.

Work Hours:
Work Hours: Monday – Friday 7:30 a.m. until 5pm. However, a typical work week is between 40-60 hours, which can vary depending on circumstances. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Although we pride ourselves on work-life balance, this position does not allow work-week time constraints.
Qualifications/Experience
- Level 1 Septic O&M Required (Level 2 desired)
- Work outside in all weather conditions.
- Work overtime as needed (this is a frequent occurrence).
- Insurable through company insurance carrier.
- Must pass drug and background screening.
- Clean driving record (fewer than 3 points).
- Able to clearly communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
- Ready and eager to learn something new every day.
- Uphold a positive attitude.
- Perform a thorough septic inspection at every job.
- Bill and quote customers as needed accordingly per work needed and or performed.
- Maintain a professional appearance and attitude.
- Safely operate company vehicles on and off the jobsite.
- Complete scheduled work in a timely manner.
- Locate and expose septic system components. Hand-digging is a frequent occurrence.
- As-Built drawing and measurement.
- Follow instructions from supervisor and/or dispatcher and carry out work in a timely manner.
- Call in locates for job site where underground repairs are needed.
- Report regularly to dispatchers throughout the day.
- Gather and document information accurately on site. Relay details to the office for follow-up work when quoting on site is not feasible.
- Complete RME reports for septic system maintenance and inspections.
- Research jobs prior to leaving the office or any time a new job is added. Brief operator prior to leaving office/site.
- Maintain work trucks, ensuring they are prepared to operate safely and sufficiently supplied.
- Educate customers on the function of their septic system.
- Complete invoices and bill the customer accordingly.
- Keep the interior and exterior of service vehicles clean and organized.
- Attach job photos to field software for documentation of work completed and needed.
- Track jobsite time for billing purposes and keep “on schedule”. Communicating with dispatchers when current scheduling is not feasible, or plans should be changed.
- Add notes of job to “work order summary”, Indicating work performed on visit in detail. Along with any notes that future technicians may find useful.
- Upkeep material on hand by keeping track of inventory and reporting material on hand to management.
