Job Description:
Seeking a highly skilled and experienced Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week day shift contract. You will be a critical part of the hospital’s Float Pool, primarily supporting Telemetry and Med-Surg/Oncology units, with potential to float to other units including ER hold and ICU tele overflow.
This is a demanding and dynamic role ideal for confident, experienced RNs with strong leadership and clinical skills. Charge experience, comfort with high-acuity patients, and adaptability are essential.
Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – Float Pool (Days)
Location: Bakersfield, CA 93301
Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Shift: 12-hour Days | Every Other Weekend | First to Float
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week
Requirements:
- Minimum Experience: 2 years of recent hands-on patient care in acute settings
- Licensure: Active RN license (California)
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS
- BLS
- NIHSS (preferred for telemetry units)
- Experience Required:
- Strong charge nurse experience within the last 12 months
- Cerner EMR experience (recent)
- No first-time travelers – must have prior travel or large-facility experience
- Experience with high-acuity patients, TBI, sepsis, strokes, etc.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide patient-centered nursing care across various units including telemetry, med-surg/oncology, and ER hold
- Float as needed across Mercy Downtown and Southwest campuses (under same license)
- Serve as a clinical and administrative resource while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams
- Uphold hospital safety and quality standards at all times
- Maintain thorough, timely documentation using Cerner EMR
- Mentor and support peers as needed in a shift lead capacity
Floating Details:
- First to float between Med-Surg, Telemetry, ER Hold, ICU tele overflow
- 1–2 shifts unit-specific orientation with preceptor
