What are the responsibilities and job description for the GNS Quality Supervisor position at Steuben Foods?
This position is responsible to assist in direction of laboratory operations, review and reporting of food manufacturing, plant environmental and sanitation programs, effective leadership of laboratory team members, and maintenance of regulatory and client compliance as outlined below in definition of job duties.
Work Specifications – Responsibilities:
- Responsible for food safety and quality.
- Reviews GMP and Safety audits for the laboratory.
- Ensures completion of Performance Excellence Program tasks.
- Communicating with customers and staff.
- Working directly with vendors, suppliers, and third-party co-manufacturers.
- Coordinating and training QC Lab Technicians.
- Developing SOPS and Lab Training Procedures and working with the Production Manager to develop Operator Training Procedures.
- Oversight of Manufacturing Compliance GMP’s
- Oversight of Certifications Compliance (Kosher, SQF, Whole Grains Council, GlutenFree, Allergens, COA’s, Nutritional’s and Product Specifications)
- Oversight of Production Efficiencies and Potential Methods of Manufacturing Improvements in yields.
- QC Data review and summarizing for yield and efficiencies.
- Oversight and maintenance of lab Equipment; Purchase and Scheduling maintenance.
- Participates in performance of regulatory testing programs in the laboratory. This includes QC testing programs, instrument programs, Technical written and practical competency testing.
- Confirmatory review of active processing systems.
- Reviews laboratory worksheets. Addresses with staff incomplete work and results out of product specification.
- Assists in maintaining laboratory databases.
- Works with GNS Production Operators to provide improved feedback from QC Technicians.
- Communicates with Production Manager and Sr. VP of Manufacturing to adjust production limits when product does not meet set specifications.
- Assist in interviewing, training of new procedures and new personnel.
- Performs PMI, troubleshoots and corrects instrument(s) malfunction(s).
- Schedules shift personnel according to production needs.
- Participates and write-up of annual review of laboratory employees.
- Effectively communicates and maintains a positive working atmosphere with QA staff.
- Acts as liaison to resolve confusion and/or problems between laboratory, GNS Production, QA group, and Steuben Main and Environmental labs.
- Assists in maintaining laboratory in clean and sanitary condition.
- Performs tasks in compliance with all company standards, including those for safety and efficiency.
- Performs any other duties as assigned or required.

Education/Prerequisite Requirements:
- Minimum Associates or Military degree in Food, Biology, or Chemistry Sciences
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as Food based QC Technician or higher.
- Certification or Attendance upon acceptance, of Better Process Control School
- Strong people and communication skills.
- Team building skills.
- Experience developing SOPS and Lab Training Procedures.
- Microsoft skills proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Schedule: M-F, rotational weekends and holidays, weekly schedule is tentative and subject to changes based on production and staffing needs.
Pay Range: $65,000 - $85,000
