Since it’s founding in 1979, SWA has developed a professional team of salespeople, estimators, project managers, installers, and support staff who deliver beautiful and inspiring environments in which learning, healing, and discovery occur.
Where we are located: Our corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility is in Nashville, TN with three regional offices in both Tennessee and Florida. We perform projects across the Southeastern US. This role is based out of our Nashville, TN office.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Millwork Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for custom paint grade/stained and finished millwork projects, ensuring alignment with client specifications, material costs, labor requirements, and project timelines. This role requires a deep understanding of architectural drawings, woodworking materials, construction processes & material procurement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze and interpret architectural drawings, blueprints, specifications, addendums, RFI’s, etc. to prepare precise material, fabrication, & labor estimates for high end, painted and stained/finished custom millwork projects that meet AWI premium grade requirements.
- Manage multiple projects while collaborating with clients, sales team, project managers, and vendors to determine project scope and bidding requirements.
- Ability to accurately price material, fabrication, and labor costs for custom painted and stained/finished millwork items. Once awarded a project, candidate will reach out to competent vendors to source materials staying within estimated budget.
- Candidates must have an established network of custom millwork suppliers capable if providing high quality millwork.
- Communicate with engineers, project managers, and installers to ensure accuracy of sourced materials, submittals drawings, and construction/installation methods.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, material costs, and labor rates.
- Ability to identify and pursue custom stained and finished projects utilizing online project boards.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a high end, custom millwork estimator or in a similar estimating role within the millwork, woodworking, or construction industry.
- Willing to submit a sample estimate for evaluation.
- Strong knowledge of millwork materials, fabrication techniques, and industry standards including an understanding of AWI/QPC requirements & construction methods.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, architectural drawings, and CAD files.
- Experience with performing material takeoffs with an estimating software, (OST takeoff/Bluebeam/etc.) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field (preferred but not required).
