Description
SUMMARY:
The Library Media Assistant works under the supervision of the Library Media Specialist to help achieve the goals of the library program; including cataloging, circulating and inventorying library materials and equipment and assisting staff and students in accessing and using print and non-print library resources.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
The Library Media Assistant will assist the Library Media Specialist in:
- Supervising students using the library media center
- Maintaining a climate conducive to learning
- Helping students and staff select, locate and use books, media and electronic resources
- Gathering resources as requested by staff
- Advocating for the use of online databases and other resources provided by the district
- Being knowledgeable about the school curriculum to better assist student and staff
- Having an interest in literature and advocating for its use by students and staff
Clerical duties performed by the Library Media Assistant will include:
- Processing library resources housed in the media center
- Maintain an organizational system for circulation of library materials and equipment
- Submitting “IT Helpdesk” tickets for devices in need of repair
- Regularly issue overdue notices with appropriate follow-up as needed (e.g; phone calls, letters, etc.)
- Regularly shelves returned materials in the proper place with accuracy
- Keep library materials in correct order
- Perform such general housekeeping duties as will keep the library neat and inviting
- Provide troubleshooting support for computer, device and equipment
- Other clerical duties and projects as assigned by supervisor

- High School education or equivalent
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to work independently on tasks and goals each day with a minimum of supervision.
- Have knowledge of and an aptitude for Apple software and operating systems and Google Apps and extensions.
- Know and follow District and School policies and procedures.
- Know and follow safety procedures within District and School.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Ability to read and interpret documents, federal, state, and/or DPI regulations and handbooks.
- Communicating with students in a way that fosters the development of a positive self-image.

- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
