Job Summary:
The Library Media Specialist will oversee the library's media programs, facilitate access to information resources, and promote literacy and digital literacy among students and staff across the district. This role involves collaborating with educators to integrate technology and media into the curriculum, providing instruction in research skills, and managing library resources; including but not limited to budgeting, diverse collection development, and maintenance of library learning spaces.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and manage the library media program, including collection development, organization, and maintenance of resources for the district and STEAM at the elementary.
- Collaborate with teachers to design and implement curriculum-based projects incorporating literacy and technology.
- Provide instruction and support in research skills, information retrieval, and digital literacy.
- Conduct library orientation sessions for students and staff to enhance their understanding of available resources.
- Plan and facilitate programs and activities to promote reading, literacy, and lifelong learning. Meet with library paraprofessionals to provide guidance and support with these programs and activities.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies and resources to support student learning.
- Assist students in selecting appropriate materials for their needs and interests.
- Monitor and assess the effectiveness of library programs and services, making recommendations for improvement.
- Maintain a welcoming and inclusive library environment that encourages exploration and learning.
- Stay current with trends in library science, media technology, and educational practices.
Update, modify and execute the comprehensive district library long range plan.
Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of library management systems and educational technology.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively with students, educators, and the community.
Familiarity with digital media resources and emerging technologies.
Experience with program planning and implementation.
Knowledge of information literacy standards and best practices.
