Description
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Marshall Public Schools is seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Teacher or Library Media Specialist to lead our 4K-12 library program. The ideal candidate will be excited about teaching library skills, technology and/or STEM to children in an elementary (3-6th grade setting), and be passionate about overseeing library programming (resource allocation, events, promotions, research skills, future ready skills, digital citizenship, etc.) throughout the district. We hope to hire a certified teacher who is passionate about literacy and technology, a Library Media Specialist (1902) License is not required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are typical for this position, though should not to be construed as all-inclusive or exclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Teach library skills to students in grades 3rd-6th in the mornings, and develop library programs district wide with a team of passionate library assistants, including co-planning and co-teaching with 4K-6 library assistants to deliver library and technology lessons in the afternoons
Connect informational literacy and the love of reading, technology literacy and integration, and digital citizenship and safety within the curriculum.
Curate and maintain a culturally responsive collection of physical and digital resources.
Establish each library space as a “hub” of learning and collaboration
Collaborate with teachers to design and implement units and lessons with rich resources.
Collaborate with the Technology Coordinator (who currently holds the district Library Media Specialist (1902) License) on budgets and programming decisions
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
The individual hired as Marshall’s Library Media Specialist will be expected to demonstrate understanding of library and technology standards.
Ability to be self-directed, as well as professionally collaborative.
Exceptional communication skills and the ability to provide professional development to educational professionals is a must.
Knowledge of the theories and research relative to literacy education.
Effective budget management skills.
Strong consideration given to a candidate who agrees to obtain certification as a Library Media Specialist.

Bachelor's Degree
Certified Teacher
Elementary - Classroom Teacher
or
Middle Childhood – Early Adolescence Regular Education
